The kick stand and a few other things bewilder me too...

It's not the concept of 'G' rating I'm concerned with at all. It is the overall downward trend of people stating their opinion in a way that... is a negative. Cause people like to 'out do' each other, if that makes any sense.

Some forums are really screwed up in that regard.

About the TE kick stand: I don't know what George does to them but mine has worked great from the start. However, it will walk when runing on hard surface and dig in in the dirt, so a rock or a twig is needed for surface preparation. :excuseme:
On my SM610 I had to take the auto retracked off myself and need to place a small square of 1/4 inc plywood under it in my gravel drive way or it will fall over to the left.
About the usage of certain words in describing our frustration: You’re right Coffee Sir, it does continue to “out do” one another as the conversation builds. I am guilty too.:busted: Now if I could only spell and use correct vocabulary I wouldn’t sound like a Homer.

Don't get me wrong, I would rather ride my 2008 TE510 with no kickstand than any other bike I have ever owned with the best kickstand in the world. But to produce a high quality bike like my Husky with that kickstand required incompetence on more than one level. The designer/engineer and quality control at a minimum, I am sure there were a few in between there that could have rectified the problem also. This is one of the first bikes shipped to California in 2008 so some changes may have been made to later models, as it seems that not every one has this severe of a problem.

This first picture shows how far forward the kickstand swings, seems ok there.

This next picture is a close up of the kickstand from the side, you can see how it sits at an angle so it cuts into the dirt.

This next picture is showing how close the kickstand is contacting the ground almost under the bike. If it were 1/4" longer it would tip over away from the stand, if it were 1/2" shorter it would fall over the kickstand. This is on flat level concrete. In the dirt it is just comical.

This last picture shows a close up from behind. So not only is it angled from the side, but from the front as well, so it sits on a point. It is like trying to stand it up on a nail in the dirt, it just digs in.

Within 5 minutes of being home from the dealer I cut off the auto-retrack bolt, other than that, it has been like this from the day it came out of the crate. I could cut the foot off and weld it back on flat. I could probably bend the tab that holds the kickstand so it sits out farther, or cut it off and re weld it back on, but wouldn't that be the manufacturers job. I don't feel I should have to do cutting, welding, and painting to make my bike work right. Whoever designed, and OKed this sidestand was not doing their job properly.

Perhaps some of the fault lies with us riders. If we voiced our concerns to the dealers enough, or even refused to purchase them until they fixed the problem, it would be fixed. The dealers would complain to Husky saying they are loosing sales because of the sidestand and it would have been fixed. So I am going to pass the blame on to you riders of 4 or 5 year old husky's that didn't complain enough:lol:.

My 4 emails to Promotobillet didn't produce any response, so I called them this morning. They said they are hoping to have sidestands in production for the TE's in 5 weeks. :) Ken

I will end on a positive note on this subject. I had a slow leak (cactus) in my front tire and when it went flat the bike fell over sitting in my shop. If it were not for the kickstand I probably would not have known I had a flat until I went to ride it, which may have made me late for a ride while I replaced the tube. So it is like an auto flat tire indicator. In all honesty, that is about as positive as I can get about the kickstand. Hope I didn't bring any one down.

They must have just been trying to cut costs somewhere convenient.:excuseme: My 07 has an acceptable stand on it.

Is there any reason not to put this post in the feedback forum? Stating explicitly of course the exact year & model of bike...and California usa. Maybe a slight re-wording?

The reason I'm suggesting your post is because it is carefully documented with pictures and is quite complete.

Dean, feel free to move it wherever you think the most appropriate place for it is. (I suggest the computer screen of someone at Husky that can make a difference on future models:)). I have heard some say their stand is OK and I would like them to look carefully at the pics and give me some feedback on what is different with their bike. Perhaps not all the mounting tabs were located with the same angle. Maybe some are getting bent during shipping or something. Perhaps George can share a secret setup trick to make it better. Ken

I decided not to move any posts into the feedback forum, if you want them to know about it start up a thread in there. It really is no big deal at all especially since you have already discussed it in public - right? You have said nothing wrong at all!

The way forums work it this:
    1. People talk (post).
    2. Some of the talk, no matter how positively it is worded, is a negative - cause nothing in this world is perfect. If the people designing the bikes tried to achieve perfection then either they would never be produced or they would cost *a lot*.
    3. At some point on a forum someone tries to collect the well intended input for the factory to look at - which makes things look a lot worse than they really are because all of that input is in one place - as opposed to scattered amongst all the other discussions.
    4. After thinking about it I created a non-public place for that feedback, and other input people might have. Maybe the best suspension person in the world wants to suggest a shim stack? It really has no specific limits at this time. In any event having a thread viewable at all times whenever they log on, and seeing the people from the factory visiting and posting, 'sort of' gives some assurance that they may have looked at the thread as opposed to an email sent somewhere on the internet.
I try to find creative solutions

Ken, here are some comparable pics from my installation. Stand and auto-retract completely stock. Definitely some manufacturing differences between mine and yours on the foot.

Looking at the pics. posted it appears the stands are positioned too close to the bikes; not enough lean angle on the stand. Also as the pics from Joliet show the foot angle to the grond and foot size need some work. I will post pics. (or have someone post them for me LOL) of the stand I will be fabricating for my 09 TXC 510. If I had a bike with a stand as shown I would have to make the corrections to keep my bike from taking unauthorized naps. These are awsome bikes that just need a little tweeking as in the stands. So lets keep our heads up and solve the problem.

When my 2008 TE 250 bike was lowered by moving the forks up the triple clamps and adjusting the rear shock, one unwelcome byproduct was the bike stood more upright on the kickstand. To remedy that, I cut the kickstand tube and added a tube inside. The tube cuts nicely and very square with a common tubing cutter. Since the tube inside is free to slide up and down, it was a simple matter of putting a temporary hose clamp on the inner tube to act as a stop and experiment with various adjustments until you get the lean and stability just the way you like it. At the same time, you can trim the bottom of the stand so that it rests flat on the floor. When the angle and length is just right, weld it up. I also welded on a larger base to give more support outboard and have more surface area in soft ground. Be careful not to make your base too wide as there is a lot of leverage way down there and you also need to check for a safe orientation when the stand is retracted.

For those like Joliet whose stand is way out of whack, I would suggest cutting your kickstand tube and inserting an inner tube splicing your two cut pieces together. Now you can rotate the lower portion of your stand so that it is flush when resting on the ground. Or is suppose, if you don't like flush , you can adjust to the Joliet "dig in" orientation. Be sure to allow for plenty of overlap on the tube. A cut about 2.5-3.0 inches from the bottom should give room for sufficient overlap on the upper and lower sections. It goes without saying that at the same time your stand length can be shortened and extended to suit your preference.

Joliet, your stand is a mess. There are obviously some quality control issues in the stand department.

I wonder if somehow the tube in Joliet's stand rotated at the bracket where it attaches to the frame. Maybe it can be rotated back?

Looks like the tube was welded to the clevis wrong. The bend is going the wrong direction.

Mine looks like ioneater's, but it didn't go to full lock like that until I cut the auto retract pin off the bolt. It wanted to stop straight down, which had it looking somewhat like Joliet's, but not that bad.

Husky Relic, give that guy a new kick stand!

Thinking a little outside the box here.

While riding with all the other Trials bikes this weekend I had a chance to snap these pics.:D

    Pretty interesting I must say...

I like how it attaches to the swingarm. And wraps around the back axle.

    Very stream line...

You don't suppose it is installed backward? If so, unbolt it and turn it around.

the early 08 TE's came with a faulty stand as pictured in ken's photos. husky supplied replacement stands to replace the original stand on those early bikes. i think from around march- april last year, the 08's were certainly coming from the factory with the new, slightly improved stand as pictured in ioneater's photos. it still isnt much chop but at least has the plate horizontal to the ground. i'd say ken should be asking his dealer what happened to his replacement stand!

    Motosportz kickstand for TE510

Has only bought the Motosportz kickstand for the TE510? If so does it work properly. I am thinking of getting one.
