How is your 27 dollar ignition holding up? Just curious because I am looking to generate a hotter spark on my husky. It has spark, but I am having difficulty starting the WR 400.

try retarding the ign a tad, mine starts sweet as a button with the original motoplat but the timing is slightly retarded. i also give it a priming kick (slow) before getting back to the top of the swing.

I have it set to 2.0mm btdc per the 84 service letter. Do you think I should go back to the factory 2.6mm?

I ran mine at 1.9, unless you are contesting a world championship then there is no argument to leave it at stock settings
it's hard on the engine and kicker, puts a lot of stress on the piston and rod, that said it is a "bit" more fun

ol mates 400 was set to factory and was a tad sharper in the response (mine was tired) but all in all there was nothing in it in a straight line. it was harder to start and if flooded would need the pawl spring reset after 20 kicks. we sorted the fuel tap / needle and seat and there were no more dramas. we were aware it needed a good kick, no pussy footing about.

I meant 2.2 not 2.6. Joe, did you have your WR set to 2.55?
