If drzcharlie says so. I have a really good soldiering station and a Ham ticket! I'm in no hurry, I'm retired...
Did another 300ish miles and I'm getting some weirdness- a couple of stalls and a strange surge at around 75mph. Not sure if it was the wind but I saw a worst ever 49.3 miles to a gallon. Doesn't seem overly rich though. Who knows. My buddy on his DR had his share of goofy problems too however. At least not alone!
I'm back to thinking that this mod is helping. Been making a habit of starting the bike and letting it run for a few minutes before setting off... This seems like the way to go. Once the bike is warm I don't have any fueling issues that I can tell aside from a slight stumble just off idle (only notice it if I blip the throttle) otherwise it pulls cleanly from low rpm and never feels like It wants to stall.
I noticed that as well. It kinda makes me wonder whether the MM ECU starts reading data from the O2 sensor before it is on operating temperature, causing the lean stumble.
The o2 sensor has it's own heating element and heats to operating temps in about 30 seconds. In stock configuration (no fueling mods) if you nail the bike prior to the heater on the sensor being warmed it could stall, some folks don't have stall issues at all. My guess is that once I get the bung extender we won't see much of a change in richness. Especially given that you guys still have the stumble. We'll see though as it may be a matter of adjusting the sleeve in length or ....?
Yup, just got it a few minutes ago. I will put it on in the morning and run the tests (have obligations tonight). My plan is to run a test chart with my bike as is with an AFR of 13.2:1, then put the extended bung on and run a chart at the same AFR. I will then remove the bung, reset the ECU, and run a chart at stock mapping of 14.7:1. Next I will put the bung extension back in and do a chart and post all four charts. Kyle check you pms
That is so awesome. Not to increase your testing load, but since you are there anyway, I was thinking about the ecu adaptions, since you mentioned the ecu reset. Any way to look at that? Just pondering, carry on.
Looking forward to the results. Thanks Kyle and Charlie on your effort. This may tell us why the bung on my GPR exh. is 1/2 inch longer.
All of us grown men... Talking of extending our BUNGS. Can't be happening anywhere else on the planet...
The results of this should be interesting for those of us that haven't made any other fueling mods yet. Looking forward to hearing your experiences.
I'm headed out for a ride this morning. Should be back around noonish CST. Afterwards I will get started on this project. Later y'all
I just got back from my morning ride. My buddy and I rode a couple of hundred miles or so about 80/20 dirt/tarmac. I need to get cleaned up and to a soccer game, but I am going to do this I promise, bear with me. Also, somebody in the dialog above wanted to know what my combined mileage is using the LC2 set at 13.2:1 or 10% richer. I flogged the engine all day long on and off road and had one particularly gnarly two track road that was a long uphill run that demanded a lot from the bike. I managed 55.01 mpg. Not bad overall. It was 82*, with 68% humidity and the pressure is 29.82 and dropping with a storm coming in. I'm happy with the fueling at the moment. I do have an option to run a second AFR through another serial port on the LC2 and I am going see if I can find an AFR that makes the engine happy on the highway and switch between the two until I can afford a PCV or?
It seems like each Terra has it's own personality with regards to the off idle stalling and other drivability issues. That being said I think mine is probably as bad as any of them. It will stall on just about every takeoff regardless of the ambient temp or the engine warm up. I have given up on the IAT spoofers due to the learning curve of the ECU. That being said, I installed one of those O2 sensor extenders today and I'm pretty impressed with the immediate improvement. The one I installed is 1 3/4" in length and there is still a slight stumble off idle but not too bad. I can definitely live with it. All performance above idle is very good. I can bring it up from 2k rpm in 4th gear and smoothly accelerate without hesitation. I've only ridden about 10 miles so far but with a lot of stop and go in town where it previously would fall on it's face. Is it truly possible that the solution is that simple? A $15 part??? I'll be leaving Sunday for about 5 days and plan to put about 2000 miles on it. If the long term trim is an influence it I would only expect it to get better. Keeping my fingers crossed.
Have you checked to see if your O2 sensor is actually working correctly? Maybe the O2 sensor is faulty?
