    I have aquired over a dozen sets of 40mm forks, 81 to 88 .

Went through with calipers finding the thickest wire with the fewest coils per inch. Hacked off 5-6 inches to stiffen rate, built pvc spacers to pre load.

Spring rate? No clue but still not stiff enough.

I talked to Cannon springs, but they wanted $150+each for 5 sets, I cheaped out.

The 39 flows more, fits snugly into 1"sch 40 Pvc, and it matches the fork bore.

The other thing I found when using the 87-88 forks is " DON'T DRILL OUT THE DAMPER RODS per Race Tech instuctions. They don't need it."

Don't know. This is what I came up with by measuring fork I.D., going through Race Tech's dimensions, and trial & error development on the bike. I,ve installed 4 sets of these so far. I just went for the largest emulator that would fit.

i am confused over proper spring length and how it relates to fork action.in this case the bike will be used to trail riding, not for track.i ordered from racetech a set of .43 springs for an 83 xc with 40mm forks.it is part #FRSP305543.the springs are about 6 inches shorter than the stock springs that came out of the bike.the idea with the .43is to stiffen the up with the .they give you a long alu peice that you cut up to make up for the shorter springs ,i presume anyways.i am sure a spacer is stffer than a spring but dont a longer spring behave in a more progressive manner?seems to me i would be making the forks stiffer and harsher at the same time?dan

    Phillip,

Thank you for the additional information.:cheers::applause:

In the interest of guiding people in the right direction, and to avoid any further confusion, I would ask that you post up the specific Part numbers and how they diferentitiate between the 40MM and the 35MM .

You obviously have extensive experience in this area so a little detailed information would benefit all that are reading. Such information would be helpfull and would clarify the subject.

    Thanks in advance.

It's been 2 years since I did the swap. At that time, Race Tech was only selling emulators and springs for 35mm husky forks.
I measured the ID/OD's and ended up with RACE TECH FEGV 4101 emulator kits. I was unable to get springs that matched OEM diameters.
I have not touched the bikes in 2 years, haven't contacted Race Tech or anyone else. If my back fusion is succesful in 2 weeks, hpe to ride again someday.

Sorry to cause any confusion, I was just relating what I went through trying to help others. In the 2 years since I did the swap, I had not seen any post referring to Race Tech springs/emulators that they had changed their recomendation.

In the case of the 87-88 damper rods, THEY CAME FROM THE FACTORY WITH A WIDER,MUCH BETTER SEAL. THEY ARE NO LONGER AVAILABLE ACCORDING TO HALL'S PART FISCHE. The old top out washers may fit, but they didn't come from the factory with them and they don't work/ last as well. Get YOUR facts straight.

I erred in saying the emulators were 39mm, but the rest of my story was accurate.

    Scoott,
I didn't have any problems with your posts. infact I found them very informative. Thanks for listing the part number for the 35mm forks. The Race Tech web site kind of sucks when it comes to looking for vintage Husky stuff. Only thing I could find for the 40mm forks was under the 81 430CR everything else is 92 or newer. The emulators for the 40mm forks are part number FEGV 3801 for $169.99. They list the fork springs as part number 3055 but no price.

The FEGV 4101 fit the 40mm. The FEGV 3801's will fit the 35's. It sounds like they are still selling the smaller emulator&spring for the 40's also.Ask them for the spring diameter and I would bet they will be for the 35's, which means they will probably wobble and rub the sides of the tube.

That was the message I was trying to get across earlier.

As always guys this all comes down to clear communication.

Scoot: Thanks for presenting part numbers for reference and more detail on the 87/88 fork legs.

Phillip -Husqvarna-parts - Would still like to see some of your more detailed information as it also would be very beneficial.... especially on the newer race Tech information.

Also as moderator in here I'm going to ask both of you to tone the " Get your facts Straight" and "Do your Homework" comments down quite a few notches.

I do expect all members of the CH Forum ( especially the Vintage Forum) to conduct themselves like the professionals and gentleman that all of you are. Cafe Husky is not like the other MC sites.

    Again... thanks in advance.

Sorry about the comeback. I will not reply that way again. I'm not looking for arguements and I truly appreciate your website. Thanks for all you do, you won't have any problems with me again.
