    Thank you gentlemen.

Looks like I'll be pulling the screw and pulling out 2 washers this time.

The screw I went with is made by Sunline-- model# 31-00-000

Did you ever progress here anymore?

    Hi Ray_Ray,

Bike is running great; just got back from a Sunday run. Let a buddy borrow the bike, and it impressed the heck out of him.

I've got it dialed in pretty well, but it could be better I'm sure.

Good to hear and U must be hot on this issue after getting your going so well!

I've installed the JD kt in my bike (08 TXC250) with the standard setting as below

The bike starts and idles well but think it is a little rich at the bottom to lower mid range of RPMs... I have a slight hesitation at the bottom and I think there might be a loss of HP there also ... When I remove the plug, it is always dark black looking with not much if any tan \ brown coloring ...

I'm looking to start with the fuel screw and then move to clip setting on the needle next to the #4 in an effort to lean out the fuel mixture ...
Does this sound like a good starting point to lean the mixture at the bottom of the RPM scale?

Current setting from the JD kit....
Red marked needle in the #5 from top clip position
    #185 main jet
    Thicker O-ring installed
The leak jet is a #65
    The pilot jet is #42

Fuel Screw set at 1.5 turns out

UPDATE: I changed the fuel screw to 1.25 turns out and it helped the bottom end response greatly but now I have a slight blog at about 1/4 throttle... The fuel screw change was small but made a big difference ...

    Hi ray_ray,

Sorry I missed your post the other day.

    My settings are:

Blue needle in clip position #4
    Main jet #185
    Pilot jet #45
    Thicker O-ring.

My finger adjustable fuel screw doesn't seem to adjust anything, so I think I'm running rich. I've been planning on dropping the pilot jet down, but haven't gotten around to it. Every time I check the spark plug, it looks great, so I haven't worried about it much.

My spark plug has never been black- it started out whitish (lean). Sounds like you are too rich to me. Does turning the fuel screw do anything while the bike is running?

I called up to JD in Washington after wondering about my fuel screw not adjusting anything. The nice lady I spoke with is positive that the reason my fuel screw is not adjusting anything is that I am running the wrong needle. She told me to go back to the red one, turn the fuel screw way out, warm up the bike, and then slowly turn it in until the bike runs erratically. She also told me I'm probably just wasting a bunch of gas at my current settings.

I'll go ahead and give the red needle a shot again, but am not sold since my bike ran so crappy at JD's recommended settings the first time.

I'll hop on it when I get some time, and will post the results back on here.

Interesting ... I can't change my fuel screw setting while the bike is running because I only have the stock jet ... I have to pivot the carb to make the change and it was just about 1/8 of a turn only ... I was blown away that such a small change on this screw made such a big difference on my low-speed throttle response ... I wish I had one that I could change easily instead of having to pivot my carb over on its side :(

I'm not sure on any of this but the taper of that needle changes the amount of fuel that is allowed to flow while it is sticking in the main jet ... Here is a link I was reading on the needle jets:
    http://keihincarbs.com/tips/gate.html

I'm gonna try to pivot my CARB and change the clip setting today and ride tomorrow for the test ...

No CARB pivoting necessary! Just remove the tank and pull the carb top off ...
Moving the clip one notch up to slot 4 got rid of the bogging for me ... Now, I'll check the WOT position ....

I finally ended up with the clip in the second notch from the top :) .... I almost wish I had one size smaller pilot jet to try :)
