I think you're right, for that kind of trickery, there's got to be something. Also, I wonder if Hyperpro could supply a longer line/hose/cable if needed to get it to mount. The nice thing is they are built to your specifications for weight and all. Do we have to bug duibhceK to post some pics?
I am currently in Tbilisi, Georgia and internet connectivity on the road is only occasional so I have not been able to keep up with this topic. But I have soem time now and a good connectivity from our hotel. Ours are mounted on the luggage rack arms that fix to the passenger pegs. See pic below. It shouldn't be too hard to fab something up near the same place if you don't have racks. The Hyperpro shocks are built custom to your specific request and specifications indeed. We've been very happy with them so far. But now I'm in Tbilisi replacing the seal on my shock. The original seal has split. Hyperpro have been helpful in providing the info I needed to do the work myself together with a local mechanic. According to them this was the first time they had seen such a problem with this specific seal. With so little miles on the shock it looks like a manufacturing flaw with the seal itself. On a side note: another thing to keep an eye on with the bike (at least the ABS Terra, I'm not sure it is the same on other models) is the front brake hose. WIth both our bikes it has been rubbing hard against the plastic ring that guides it along the front fork. The outer plastic has already been severely damaged and some of the steel braiding starts showing damage as well. Keep an eye on that!
My rear shock was cooked so I went ahead and got the one from Touratech. They had it built and sent to me in three days per my specs. Ian put on a preload adjuster for me and assured me that if there were any problems or if I needed a different spring rate, he would take care of it. I like adjustability and the Hyperpro's would be great for that, but I feel confident TT know's where the valving needs to be for adventure riding. It went in nicely. I greased up the pivots while I was there. Got me thinking I should do my swing arm too before the ride season kicks in. My head bearings were shot, so It doesn't make sense not to check the swing arm. I'll mount the preload adjuster here most likely. There is 20" of hose to work with. Now for a whole new front end with WP 48mm shocks also with preload adjustment.
What did the TT cost? The Hyerpro, through the US distributor was about $750. That price was good for last summer/fall.
TT wants $799 for the basic shock and another $350 for the preload adjuster. I think I spent $1600 on my TFX rear shock for the R1200GS that sounds like it may be comparable to the Hyperpro if it does indeed have a remote reservoir and preload adjuster. $750 seems sort of unreal. Had I of known about them, I would have given em a go. I wouldn't have even known that they existed if I hadn't pulled up this thread to post about the TT shock. Does anyone have any pics of their Hyperpro's before they were installed? I would like to see the shock assembly they built for this bike up close. Did you ever get a rear shock for yours Clete?
Nope, haven't got one yet. I thought there was a pick of one on a TR, but that quite a while ago. I have the emails both from Hyperpro and the US distributor, a pick may be in there. i'll try to find tomorrow at work. I'll let ya know what i find.
Alright, I'm a slacker. Finally getting to this. I found a couple emails from Hyperpro, but no pic of one mounted on a TR. They use their 461 model for the Terra, and several other brand bikes.
I have 2 lying around in the man cave. They went to Hyperpro for a revision and I haven't gotten around to reinstalling them yet. I'll try not to forget to take a pic. They are indeed the 641 model with remote reservoir.
Definitely not. Too happy with how they perform. They just went to Hyperpro for a full revision which they offered to do free of charge because the seal on one of the shocks gave out way too soon. A nice gesture because the shocks had gone way beyond their prescribed 20k maintenance interval by the time we got back home from our trip.
...another source if you guys in the US don't know about it is Ted Porter who does all sorts of brands and levels of cost. Best part is he'll set the shock you choose for your riding style and weight at no extra cost.
Also did the YZ426 forks upgrade on mine. Decided to upgrade the rear at the same time. Went for a Wilburs shock/spring (modded Serrow one) but upper mounting had to be extended as O/D of the spring was 3mm more than the original. Very pleased with results.
