Got a little bit of late start because of work, but I got the hard parts done: These damn things are the most time consuming and intricate parts, as they have to be lined up on all dimensions: Not only are both of the notches rotated 90* from each other, the outside one has a 7.5* offset: Got all four arms notched, mounted and tacked:
And welded: Checking for fitment: Fairbanksak's rack welded and checking for fitment: Bluegohper's rack with Rotopax straps welded and fit on the bike: Tomorrow the tie-down hoops get welded on then painted:
Hey, hey, hey - look what showed up today. I'll get it installed tonight after work and post a pic. Very nice rack I must say. Glad I got one.
The box was pretty beat up but all was well on the inside. Ziploc bag with 4 bolts and split washers made the trip too.
Ha, that box does look beat to hell. Good old USPS... they had a challenge trying to destroy the contents of that package.
Ok, got a spare moment, and yes it only took a moment, to get RE's rear rack mounted. This thing is built to last and a direct replacement. I'm going to mount some crap to it and see how it takes it but I honestly can't see how it could fail. I have had to use the stock rear rack a couple times as a handle to lift the bike from precarious situations (drops) and have heard it snap, crack. That won't happen with RE's but I'll do what I can to prove it. I just love to ride this Terra like a dirt bike. Probably because I don't have a dirt bike. Anyway here are a couple quick pics. RE I'll let you know how it goes.
faribanksak got his/mine ON WEDNESDAY!!! He's busy at this stupid JOB thing he has, so he hasn't mounted mine yet before sending it down to me. HOLY CRAP I'M EXCITED TO GET IT!
Dang it... I just realized I've yet to build myself one of these damn racks. Just when I thought I was done working on this friggin Terra...
Going to the shop right now to drill it for a rotopax mount. Once I get it mounted, I'll send some pictures.
Awesome to see it mounted up. Glad you put the Rotopax on lengthwise. I plan on running mine turned sideways... whenever I get to building my own rack!
I have to say this is one damn fine rack. I got one from RE from his first batch and I've put it through the wringer. I commute to work with it almost every day loaded with about 20 lbs. I've ridden a few hundred miles on single track, two track, FS roads too with plenty of front and rear suspension bottoming landings and it's held up without a whimper. It makes a great, sturdy handle for picking up the bike in awkward situations too. It will probably outlast the bike. Check over on ADV for more info.
I am now in the process of becoming truly Terrafied. Looking for the best rack system and now focusing more on these beauties cf with other top racks out there. Are you still making them? If so to order ? And what cost? Would you like some worthless Australian dollars...lol? No hurry and shipping can be thru Suez canal if it is cheaper than usual rates between old allies.. Almost cheaper for me to come over there ,help you make em and fly back with them attached to my back as a medical appliance. Hmm I saw a comment that they fit the Wolfman side racks well. Whole system sounds great.
Probably the best set up out there. Now I'll need to convince the kids that getting a lump of coal for Christmas is virtuous. Wolfman/BR Moto racks just hit Australian shores. Selling for Aus $375.
