I am jealous of that husky line-up you've got there. Quite the collection. Maybe jealous is the wrong word.....it's exciting to see what you have going on there. Nice work. Keep the posts & photos coming.

Agreed OBD , there's something about lining up your husky's stepping back and mesmerizing.

Thanks guys. That's all the bikes my garage will hold and there's a '87 430 WR out in the shed!
I've been going through them all, fixing things and doing maintenance. I'd like to get them all in race condition.

It's been fun learning how they work and all the tricks to make them run better. They are all riders, no garage queens here.
Huskys do have a certain provenance, as they say, in their day they were top notch competition bikes built to race.

Cycle World April 1987 called the '87 430 WR the "best Open-class enduro in existence - maybe the best enduro bike of any size."

would need a rear disc to be able to make that claim today. the rear drums are ok but just don't cut it against a good rear disc.

otherwise even against todays bikes, it wouldn't be far behind at all.

if I wasn't into the pre 80 thing, I would fit discs to the 400 and it would be a great rider.

Here's the rebuilt '87 250 motor in the frame. I decided to install a Powerdynamo ignition I got years ago from Penton Racing.

I'm working on fitting the Powerdynamo coil and regulator on to the frame. This is a problem 'cause the XC came with a SEM ignition not a Motoplat w/ coil like my WR's. The upper frame tabs - bolt holes don't line up to mount coil. I may have to fab something.

I installed the subframe and carb boot too.
I had to add washers to subframe bolts to widen the space for the Ohlins shock. Subframe was going to rub the right top side of shock... are all XC frames like this?
    More pics to follow...

    Thanks, Justin.
Nope, the right side of shock, up by the spring adjusters. If I crank down the spring adjusters to be below the lower subframe brace, the spacing would be OK. Just playing it safe and giving the shock and frame room to flex.

See the pic below, view from the top of shock... I added 2 washers between frame and the lower subframe brace to create some room...

Here's the Powerdynamo ignition on the motor. It comes with everything you need, stator w/ built in plate, rotor, coil and regulator.

Notice the red dot on the stator plate, that's about TDC. The etched line on the rotor is at 2.0 mm BTDC. I hope I timed it correctly. :)

As I mentioned above, I have to mount the new coil into the XC frame, which is setup for a SEM transistor unit not a coil.

Here's the XC upper frame tabs where the coil has to mount... and does not work...
    IMG_2194.JPG

Here's how a WR frame with coil looks... this is how the coil should be mounted in the XC frame but the tabs don't exist.

    View of kicker side.
I left George's Up-Tite scratching visible on the cylinder. I don't want to cover up the evidence! Well, the exhaust will hide it...

I noticed my kicker is loose at its knuckle joint. Is it possible to rebuild and tighten it up? Has anyone done this?

Yes, my frame is different, being an XC frame with the SEM ignition.
    See my frame pics above.

You have the WR frame with the Motoplat ignition. So, your frame is ready to mount a coil in the Y.

Here's the original SEM module that was in my frame:

Interesting. I'm not up on all the ignition possibilities. The '88 Parts Manual might show the configurations, as the Italians may have made changes.
