Awesome report Tami, looks like you experienced a little bit of everything terrain wise. Definitely no shortage of
    rocky terrain in those mountains.
I'm wondering if the Jeep Jamboree is going on up at the Rubicon because I've been seeing an unusual amount of tricked out
Jeeps and various 4X4's up there all weekend.
I can definitely agree with you on Elkin's Trail 31. It's long and rocky. Here's a clip but I think I'm going the opposite direction because
what I experienced was a long rocky downhill and at the end of the clip I kind of lose the trail.

That was amazing! Thanks so much for sharing this adventure. Looks like a great bunch of people in a fantastic environment. We just came down from a few days in Truckee area and I was wondering about the riding opportunities.

Love the boat and the name. Off to Santa Cruz.....

Lovely trip Woodsie. I do so vicariously enjoy yours and Eric's escapades. I must do a ride in your part of the world one day, it is such a diverse mix and all interesting. Once again thanks for the effort, you too Eldrick.

Right on! Let me know when they get here. The only maps we used for this ride (other than the ever-present Benchmark Road and Recreation Atlas) were the Stanislaus NF map for Day 1 and an Eldorado NF map for Day 2. There is a trail map available for the stuff we rode on Day 2 but I couldn't find it. We didn't really need it as we weren't going to be riding trails. Heh... :D

I love it when I get to ride "vicariously" through your great reports. It says alot about your character the way you left "David's place better than you found it".
I thank my mother for instilling that in me. My friends are always happy to loan me anything because they know I'll take care of it better than they themselves do (I generally don't do wheelies on their bikes as I'm pulling away, only after I'm out of sight). :)
I sent you an FB request (Tim McKaughan). You can see some of my Indo travels on my page.

You're welcome! Don't know how I missed your post. Yeah, that boat is beautiful. The mast is done now, the portholes have actiual windows in them, there is some rigging...it's really coming together nicely.

Thanks! You can't beat the west for kick-ass riding, that's for sure

    WoodsChick,

Thanks for the tip on Benchmark maps. I was previously relying on Delorme Atlas & Gazetteer maps (great name), but the Benchmark maps seem more detailed. Also recently came across Butler motorcycle maps - more street oriented, but they seem to have done a great job of listing all the good pavement and some of the more obvious dirt roads in their so-cal map, so its pretty useful for areas I'm not familiar with. No affiliation with any of these companies, but your trip reports always send me to the maps to figure out all the great places you folks go, so I appreciate the tip about Benchmark. Thanks!
