I lost no top end, in fact gained top with my 36mm Lectron over my 38 TMX. Walt found the Lectron pulled an amzing 1000 rpm further than the RB TMxx. Everyone who has used them for years says buy a size small as they flow better. Not sure how they are supposed to flow better but that's the rub. As far as better or worse I think they will both work well (36 -v- 38). Personally I would go 36. Yes come setup and should bolt right on and run great as is. Might need to adjust it once for even better running but I would bet money it will run better than stock by a good margin with no adjustments whatsoever. I do feel that strongly about this carb. the stock cable works but is tight as it is tight stock. We are building longer ones right now for those who feel they need it. The fit is a little bit off as the TMxx is very short. Installing it in no issue but the air box boot might get rubbed by the shock some. It is not a perfect replacement fit but close enough to not pose much issues. Myself, Walt and 454x have got some good use on this carb and all say the same thing. Smooth, responsive, super clean running, more power, more control, etc. It is IMHO a very noticeable thing. Also the feeling of my bike runs good off the bottom but not in the mid, on on top but not the bottom is pretty much gone and replaced with very precise feeling fuel metering bottom to top. I really would not be going on and on like this about a carb if i did not think it was a good leap forward. It would be stupid of me to try and get people interested in something that is not going to offer more. As you are a long time CH contributor, seeming good person and pretty interested I will offer you this, buy one from me and if it does not work better than the stock carb I'll take it back. How about that! K
I've never seen soooo much excitement about a Carburetor. Seemingly off topic, I know, but these types of things seem to be systemic... The oldest post on Cafe Husky is here, It does not seem fair to the people who sell these types of products, to encourage them to join Cafe Husky so they can let us know the pricing and availability or answer questions about their products when that is not allowed. The last time this happened several posts were allowed as a courtesy, and clearly that did not work out at all. Sorry to be the bad guy, just report back what the vendor told you the pricing is, as opposed to encouraging vendor to sign up. There are no obnoxious ad servers for Geico, Progressive insurance, like other sites have. There is no deep pockets funding source like advrider has. There is only Kelly, and people like kelly, who support the site... and as of yesterday, we moved to a much more expensive server just to function.
I'm in! I hope my bike starts easier too. I'm tired of having to jump out of the nearest tree or off a boulder to get the lever speed fast enough to light the Mikuni mix.
What are you saying Dean? Want me to stop talking about the Lectron because they are not an advertiser here? Or did I read that wrong? What about Motoz tires? Trailtech? Let me know as i was not trying to play outside the rules.
That is not what I meant at all. There was another person who sells these carbs that joined up to give their pricing and availability. The post was not approved so you did not see it. I really don't want to be too specific, but in general as of late - people seem to be encouraging people who sell products to join Cafe Husky to discuses their products... Clear?
I have a quick question for you guys who have been tuning your Lectrons. I got mine on and the top end seems way better than with the RB-PWK, but there is blubbering and a bit of rich bog coming off the bottom. Is the special tool necessary for adjusting the metering rod?
Blubbering? really? Interesting. No tool needed. Pop the slide out, fold a thin piece of thin non corrugated card board over the end of the metering rod and turn it with a pair of pliers. I would go 3/4 turn out (counterclockwise). You only do it in 1/4 turn steps and then need to push up on the rod and index it back so the flat side is facing the motor. I;m guessing your idle needs to be about all the way in to get it to idle if it is that rich. The idle is a good indicator. Mine needed the idle backed off once I went a little leaner. Mine ran great as setup but seemed slightly rich (they set them up to error on the rich side) so I turned it half turn and it is about perfect for me.
Thanks Kelly, I was hoping to edit my post, in my haste to git er on, I'm guilty of speed reading the instructions and I ain't no speed reader.... When I say blubber, it's like when you are about 1+ pilot jets too rich. It was fast on the top end before, but WOW, seems to spin up way more!
No problem, thank you. Like everything we learn from I am just passing on my findings like Vinduro passed them on to me after John passed it on. All good. Like the 165 kit, if you like it you love it and pass on the good info.
Quick Question Kelly and the gang -- What is the word on the Lectron's ability to accomodate change in elevations and temperature? The APT sugests that you will never have to touch it -- from sea level to 10,000 feet. The carb does all the adjusting. Does the Lectron offer the same sort of advantage? For me -- this is important as I ride at 3000 feet in the winter and 8000 feet in the summer. Any thoughts fellas?
My Lectron was a little rich as delivered, but once the metering rod was adjusted out the bike runs just the way Kelly, Walt anf others have described in their reviews. Like my Dad used to say "what can you say when all the words have already been used up?"
