Wow I'd be more worried about the rider at that elevation . That will be quite a test though.

90% of our riding is above 7000' so you are fairly aclimated. Most of our trails start at ~4500' but almost all of them immediately climb up above 6000' in the first mile.

Wow, that first 2000 ft. hill must be a bear.

Some are just a long series of switchbacks, a couple are just immediate series of hill climbs that get pretty rocky dry and loose by mid-summer. Most of the areas that are trails along streams have been shut down to us for a while. The majority of our riding is ridge tops.

I think I have a clearer picture of why you invented the WB165 :D.

With the Mikuni my WR250 felt like a 200 with a big flywheel when I went from 1,500 ft to 7,500 ft. I will find out what the Lectron does this summer.

Got to go for my first real ride with the lectron on sunday I was very impressed. I ended up with the metering rod back in the delivered setting and the power jet at two turns out. We rode on fast smoth frozen ice packed sled trails and it couldn't have ran better. I did a race with the stock carb it did not run very now I am happy with the bike.

Yep good guns. They don't fit my hand as well as my Kimbers but they do go bang every time you pull the triggger.

I got to test my 36m lectron this Sunday on my 2012 wr 300. I installed the carb with just the supplied electron goodies. I tried using the mikuni elbow but the stock cable was just too short. I used the supplied rubber grommet with my throttle adjustment almost all the way out. I'm interested in the motion pro elbow cables when those come in. Don't really need the bar riser length. I used the stock routing method of between the head stays.
Enough install info. After several days of rain the Texas sky turned blue and windy. I decided to leave the metering rod stock since i noticed the carb was shipped from lectron in Texas. I did adjust the power jet from 1 to 1 1/4 turns. I needed about 4 or 5 kicks to get wr 300 to fire up. I blame the mikuni for loading the plug. The lectron hit me with a very tractor low end grunt with nice mid range, and just a slighly congested top end. Since it was fairly muddy top end wasn't in the cards on the first couple of laps. Had to locate the big mud holes and the sano way around.
I decided to bump up the power jet to 1 3/4. This seemed to really wake up the middle and top end. Felt really good. Better than the mikuni. The bottom wasn't tractor like anymore but still good. I was digging the more top/middle power after power jet adjustment.
After warming the bike and adjusting the idle, the starting was usually a 1 or 2 kick affair. Seems easier to kick over. I noticed with the mikuni that when i would experience starting problems the kick back would raise its ugly head and the kickstarter would physically be harder to kick. The lectron didn't exibit any of these traits. Easier kick thru. Once these bikes are jetted right the kicker is just easier to deal with. Just my opinion.
One final thing is I could smell the ester bean burn of the maxima caster 927. My riding partner even committed on it. Still had some splooge but not as much.
I have say I'm fairly happy so far as the electron beat the mikuni, just wondering if i should of got the 38m for on the pipe fun.

Get finished typing mine up and see the review for the 36 on the 300, I'd like to see the comparison between the 36 and 38. Sounds like the 36 might be the more friendly of the two.

A little background on me, I race B/Open B class in 3 local hare scramble series (Kansas & Missouri). I'm taking on the Black Jack Enduro series (Oklahoma, Arkansas, Missouri) this year as well and will hit one national enduro and one GNCC. Last year I ran 36 races. I've been racing for 5 years, riding for 16 (only counting full size bikes). My previous bike was a heavily modified 2008 KTM 200 XCW (milled head, ported cylinder, 38.5mm oval bore keihin carb, full hinson clutch, etc - re: a balls out screamer). I've used the stock mikuni, an rb modified mikuni, keihin 38 AS on the husky trying to get it working right to no success.

I installed the 38mm lectron in tune as sent from Lectron on my 2012 WR 300 (stock pipe, Leo Vince silencer with wire spark arrestor installed, g2 throttle cam with middle can installed) Friday night. Too late to test it. Saturday morning, I turned the choke on and it fired second kick. Let it idle a bit and checked throttle response, all seemed in order. Good enough for me. Keihin thrown to the side, bike loaded up for the first round of the enduro series 5 hours away (at White Rock, AR for those interested). I want to bring up the throttle cam because of several reasons, 1. It uses almost all the adjustment on the throttle cable, as in the adjuster is almost out of the throttle assembly. 2. Unless you're in the desert or mx, I highly recommend this for the 300 with the Lectron. And concerning the choke, I found the right side easily accessible. Find the brake reservior, then right past it is the choke. Not too close to the pipe to reach.

There was no inspection when I got there, so I didn't fire it up then. My row rolled out at 9:17am Sunday morning, prior to that the bike took a few kicks to fire, then went to a sketchy idle, a little adjustment to the idle screw and things were sorted out. Once warmed up (as much as can be in sub 30F temps) I took it for a buzz through the pits. Very impressive. Now for the real test, 100+ miles of slick, snotty mud covered tree roots, ruts, and rocks in 30F and snowing conditions.
On the small to mid throttle openings, its pretty tame. Working exactly as you'd expect. Smooth and clean. Very responsive throttle. It doesn't bog down, though I was able to stall a few times.

When you get on it hard is where this carb really shines. Keep in mind, this is with the stock pipe. With a DEP on i am betting it is onoy amplified. Where the 300 usually dies out above half throttle, the Lectron takes off like a rocket. You'd better be holding on, because it flat rips. Combine this with the extreme ease of starting, and there shouldn't be a hare scramble I don't pull the hole shot on.

Its really hard to describe exactly how hard this thing pulls now and the smoothness of it, but its dramatic. My 200 pulled longer, but not by much. This will not be for everyone on the 300. It is a lot of power and comes on quick. The flywheel effect seems reduced with the quickness of the revs. With the throttle cam it was still a quick hit, if you have a tendacy the whiskey throttle, I wouldn't recommend it. You might also want to freshen your rider resume and send it into your tire company of choice because the back end will spin if you whack it too aggressively.

I don't think for my application this increases range at all. The willingness to rev like a small bore had me riding it like it was when the trail allowed. Before I would have ridden a gear high and lugged it through. If ridden the same way I'd believe the increased efficiency, but I was unable to ride it responsibly.

So, for the 300, if you think you can handle it, go for it and you won't regret it. If you're more timid, novice, have heart conditions, are pregnant, or might become pregnant, then it might not be the best option for this application.
I'll have to get a second ordered for my brother's WR125, because for what it did to the 300 it must be incredible on the small bore.

    thanks for the detailed review.

Love it. But i would imagine anyone who buys a beasty WR300 is in the same boat.

I've been busy with other things, but will be going out soon to dial in the high RPM tuning on my carb. I hope it will be as impressive as people have been claiming. I sort of miss the sledgehammer hit the Mikuni delivered off the bottom, but maybe will gain some of it back with the top end richened up.:excuseme:

I really think these carbs feel smoother as you have less dips in the powerband making it feel like the hit is less.

My Mikuni with the stock pipe had a nasty hit right off idle and through the middle and a top end like you pulled the rip cord on a parachute (the top end wasn't bad if you jetted it scary lean). Once I installed the Gnarly pipe it smoothed it out quite a bit but still had a hard mid hit that would loop you out in a 3rd or 4th gear wheelie if you weren't careful and a better top end once jetted richer. Now the Lectron/Gnarly combo pulls hard from the bottom to the top with no surprises. It doesn't seem as scary because it's more predictable but I think it's every bit as fast just easier to ride. Every time I let someone else ride it, when they git off to give it back they always say something like "Damn that's fast" so it must not be too bad.

Kevin and I were laughing and talking about just that and comparing it to the old days and automotive quadrajet carbs. The quadrajet had extra small primaries and huge secondaries. When you nailed it there was a short rich bog which was followed by a violent power surge (chirping of tires), giving the impression of more power than there really was.
