Thanks for the info Greg.:thumbsup:Updated some info on ADV. Yep that LHS lug is/was rather nasty with no harm or damage. Not great but I used a shifter and a hammer too bend that lug down out of the way. Yes they do also touch either side on the airbox, but the worst is a fair bit of chafing on the rear plastics screw heads.

Really glad you let us know, it was so damn obvious.

    Cheers,

Has anyone installed a Safari tank on a Strada since this thread started and problems were noted with fitment?

    Fitment to Strada:
OK I have mine on now. Had to do a fiar bit to get it fitted properly. Had to grind the left edge of the airbox a lot. Remove some of a tab just in front of it. Grind away part of the left radiator mount. made nylon spacers for the centre standoff bolts for either side and put rubber against the tank. Longer bolts to fit that point as stock ones were too short. Made nylon tapered spacers for the rear screws so they kept the screw heads away from the tank plastic. Made a new Satinless piece for the top as even with all that the supplied one was not long enough. The centre frame plug/nut had to be turned down to fit in the frame and the stainless crosspiece was not ate the correct angle so I bent them parallel to the tank land and make nylon spacers. I am currently figuring out where to fit the electric fuel pump as I don't want to drill a hole that far down the std tank and will pump to up near the std tank inlet.
I have ridden it without the fuel connected to the new tanks. It acts as a dammed good fairing and is very comfortable.
Hopefully the manufacturers will mod the next lot a bit. Mine was from the first batch of reds so still a bit of a beta version.

Thanks for the feedback, Greg. I'm going to ask the US importer if they have a later batch before I decide.

I am now attempting to fit the electric pump to transfer the fuel from the tanks to the main tank. I didn't want to drill a hole that far down with that much pressure on the seal so I bypassed the gravity feed . Unfortunately the only pump I could find after a fair bit of searching was a bit big. Put the inlet up near the main tank filler. It should have little or no fuel pressure so leaks should be less likely. If anyone knows where I can get a smaller 12v inline fuel pump please post.

I heard back from the US importer -- they contacted Safari who said:

"No changes for this model since the production start per Safari Tank and they are collecting feedback for future changes."

I rather doubt if they will make any production changes since the Terra/Strada is no longer being produced.

Are the Safari tanks lower then the top of the stock tank?

I think all of the tank caps are nearly equal in height judging from pictures I've seen. Check out the threads on Advrider.com there are a number of very good pictures on the "Husky TR650 - New Owners Stupid Questions " under Thumpers.

I saw a picture of the fuel pump module with the empty port on the top. I was wondering if the port could be opened and use a fuel line fitting to feed the stock tank. But the top of the tank would have to be below the safari tanks to gravity feed the stock tank.

Top of Safari tanks are higher than the stock cap opening. The breather was considered but is too restrictive. I will have to open it up anyway, though, to stop back pressure building as the fuel pumps in as the air flow is ( understandably) restricted.
If you use the recommended Safari method you do not need the pump. I did it so there would not be a low hole in the stock tank to reduce possible leakage in the future as the synthetic rubber ages.

    Just a heads up.
Safari Tanks are looking at their TR650 tanks closely. They are looking at the first batch customers for feedback and looking at the design/production problems or differences in bikes also. Waiting to see what happens now?

Hey Greg, would it be possible to reach in through the tank, under the seat, and install a bulkhead type fitting where Safari recommends? Seems that would be better than a grommet. Probably would have to fab up an installation tool, but totally workable. I have no intention of getting the Safari tank for my bike. I will carry a rotopax or similar.

It is very possible, however a small hand may be needed to fit into the tank is all.

I was just thinking, a coat hanger fished through, then just drop the fitting down over and finesse it through the hole. A light touch with needle nose pliers should be able to aid in the install, and once positioned the final torque could be applied, with a make shift line attached to keep from spinning.

Hey mate, check out page 2 of this thread. AUS_TR650 and I discuss this option. I have a small hand and can fit it into the tank. Cheers

I considered that spot to use the supplied fitting and the best spot there for the std fitting would just above the pump/outlet fitting. Not a lot of pressure there even when full and some useable space. Where I have it it interfers with the cowling around the fuel cap making it a bit higher, but I don't care as the tank finish is pretty agricultural looking anyway. The bulging cowl is not the most aesthetically pleasing but you have to look to see it.
The recommended spot is to allow gravity to do the work, which has a lot to recommend it. I wanted to isolate the tanks and reduce the chance of seepage which is why I used a pump and mounted the fitting high. Years of system pre-troubleshooting I guess.

Has any one used the breather of the OE tank to suck fuel through from the Safari tank!!!

I checked it out. You have to remove the spring, flap and check ball and drill out the holes in the tank and the top bit. I had to any way to stop backpressure build up from the pump inflow. I used a 3mm drill bit.
You would still have to use a pump though ( electric or vacuum)
