Wow, your local guy did a really sweet job! Honestly I like the looks better than the SC seat. Too bad he's half way around the world from me.

After 5000km round trip to Phillip Island for the MotoGP I can confidently say that the Seat Concepts foam/cover is only a percentage more comfortable that the stock seat. Takes longer to get uncomfortable and then not as ultimatley as uncomfortable but after a few days very uncomfortable. My girlfriend has a KTM Duke with a stock seat and insisted on telling me repeatedly over the intercom how comfortable her seat was and she weighs the same as me.
So SC is more comfortable than stock but not a cure all.

No. Moved the step-up at the rear about 1 1/2 " back. It pushed me too far forward.
Took the rubber out of the pegs and it feels nice now! (I'm really hard to fit/picky)

My seat arrived last night. I still need to get a staple gun, spray glue and staples. The local shop near me wants $50 to install, so I'll just do it myself.

Here's an update on my seat.

I've used the tall/carbon seat for about a month now. They talked me into a slightly softer foam.

    Three things I don't like.

1.) The carbon seat is slippery. I've accidently slid forward a couple inches when approaching a stop light more than once.
2.) The softer foam combined with a tall seat does not feel right. There is way too much up and down movement and doesn't feel right, especially when riding offroad.
3.) My installation skills are not so good and I could never get the wrinkles out.

I'm sending the pan and everything back and ordering the following.

    +1 firm foam.
    Gripper top

Hopefully they can get it installed without the wrinkles.

I have had the SC tall with gripper material for almost a year now. I went with the firm foam and it has worked very well. I just had a local upholsterer do it for $50. Although he did not add the plastic around the seat but I have not noticed the foam absorb any water. I ride in the rain very often here in Florida and every thing has worked perfect.

    Dear Mr. Isldtime,

Is the cover material at the rearmost portion of the seating area...ahead of the step-up...in contact with the foam, or is it up in the air? If the foam contour is as pictured, it looks like it would still slide me forward on to my junk. Also, would you say that you actually got any noticeable lowering out of the new seat? Thanks. Bill

No, there is a void under that area where the cover is pulled tight ( my Tiger 1050 seat was that way too). Remember, I had the foam reshaped after originally installed because it pushed me too far forward. It is lower and much more comfy than the OEM and I can flat foot both sides now.

I'd add, I watched the guy at Seat Concepts install my foam and cover.

Here's a shot of mine after the final foam mod and installation.

They do glue the foam to the base but they suggest not using glue at all for the plastic or the cover. They place the plastic under the cover/over the foam, no adhesive. It doesn't make the cover follow the contour of the foam precisely which I'm not so crazy about, but it does allow the cover to move around a bit on compression and expand/shrink with temp independently which I think might be slightly better. The cover on both of my Sargent seats are not glued to the foam. The cover on the Bill Mayer seat for my Stelvio is glued on so I've got both to compare. It also has a basket weave top, as do the Sargent seats I have.

In general I'm finding most of the basket weave/carbon look materials rather slippery and I'm really glad I went with the gripper top, I like that quite a bit. I was worried it might be too grippy but I'm not finding that to be the case.

If somebody wants to try putting on the cover I can describe the procedure they used at Seat Concepts. I've watched it twice now so I've pretty much got it down. I also shot a photo of the staple gun they use.

I just received round #2 of my Seat Concepts seat. They made the foam firmer, and did the top in the gripper material. I just went for an initial ride and I like it a lot better. No more slipping around and I feel more in control. This is the tall version. seat.jpg

I just got a custom shape job by a local guy. So far I really like it. Will put it to the test here in next few days by taking it out for an all day ride. He had me sit on it, identify where my bones make contact, and marked it (cover off). From there he starts gently machining (not cutting with a knife) the surface to create essentially a mold of my backside. Ends up being something of a "basket" that distributes weight more evenly... like an old tractor seat. Couple of on and offs and minor additional shaping, careful not to go too far, and behold, a nice comfy dish built for me! Cover back on and I'm in business. $150. He guarantees all his work, so if it isn't right I just ring him up. He has a way for you to post your seat, along with a pic of you sitting on it. He's had good luck with the guys sending in from afar as well. Guzzler custom seats out here in Brissy. Good bloke.

I've searched myself half to death and can't find what I want. I've just taken the cover off my stock seat and am looking for photos posted by people who have moved the hump back and maybe some lowering. I'd like to see what the foam looked like before re-covering. Thanks.

I didn't get a pic of my seat with the cover off, but I'll do my best to describe the process and what it looked like.

Think tractor seat... The old steel ones farmers sat in all day. Sit on your bike, level (have someone hold it, ideally), and then reach down and feel the bones in each cheek touch the seat. Mark that spot. That is where you are looking to reduce load. From there back you very carefully begin to grind away very small bits to form a dish for your butt. It doesn't take a lot. There isn't much foam there to begin with, so don't get carried away.

Not sure if it helps. I'll see if Hobbs has any pics I can be from him and post up for you.
