I understand the PVL doesn't like big bores.

Because I've already done it and I know it doesnt work. The 430 has bad primary ratios that make it hard to start with an ignition that makes decent spark at cranking RPM (MZB) and that makes it virtually impossible to start with a PVL which has terrible/nonexistent spark at cranking RPM.

You might be OK with that, but I can't say for sure since I have never tried a PVL with that setup.

The 250 primary gears turn it over a lot faster than the 400 gears do so he might be OK, since I have not actually tested that combo I dont know for sure but if I was going to bet money I would say no, it wont work.

I'll put it in a 250. I have compression releases for all the engines. Some heads came with the extra holes.

using an 84 and later WR400 primary gear through kicker gear on a 430 gives it a better ration and starts better than a standard 430.

So everyone understands what we mean it's the speed of the kick that's makes a better spark. We don't get a good spark on a slower kick.

Yes, the ratio of the stock 430 does not spin the engine over fast enough per each kick of the lever.

I think by installing a compression release is where it's at?

A compression release will help by reducing kicking effort, but it not make the crank spin over faster, you need to change the primary ratios.

What primary ratio works on a 430?

The 84+ LC 400WR is the best, but I believe once Husky brought the LC 430 back it had the same ratios as the LC 400WR.

I'm showing the LC 400 and the LC 430 both at 2.3 (33/76) for their primary drive ratio. Looks like the 250 could be had at 2.63(30/79). I see the 84 250 at 2.41(32/77). When was the first year 400?

Thats what I thought I remembered, the LC 430 had the same ratio as the LC 400WR, 84 was the first year.

Same as my 87 TE 510 the SEM stator is mounted to the Rt side case & the Mag is inverted / reversed . I have a question . Does direction of Flywheel in relation to stator have an effect ? Will a stator that is meant to be mounted internal work if it is mounted on an external application ? Thanks for all information
