From August 2014. prior to departure on a trip up west side and back down the east side of the Mississippi River.
This was my setup for the last camping trip. The only thing I didn't bring was my Joey chair, maybe next time.
Yup, I took the title of the thread "ready to camp" literally, LOL. I snapped that shot the night before taking off. The setup worked well overall except the tail bag being "not quite" as rugged for the ride as I'd hoped. It made the trip so ..... and I've used that bag on several other bikes for day rides etc. But this time it was loaded heavier so I was sweating it more. As mentioned, I need to see about including my Joey chair next time, unless the ride will be more off-road oriented then it will stay home.
Had a chance to test my new Moskomoto bags on a recent 3 day 800 mile camping trip to the high desert SE Oregon, NV and NE CAlifornia.
Hansi, I'll leaving for the TAT next week and thinking about running a K60 (without center strip). Any experience with that tire in that area? My only concern is deep sand.
My wife had a K60 (with centerstripe) mounted on her Versys for a northern Baja trip. Had surprisingly good traction in sand that we hit quiet often between Alfonsinas and Coco's. I had a set of Karoo 3's on my Terra for that trip that did outstanding in the soft stuff, motored through everything, never got stuck. The rear lasted about 4500 miles. Maybe something for you to consider for the TAT? After Baja I mounted a K60 rear/TKC80 that I really liked for gravel and dirt (aired down a lot!), but I did not like how detached and spongy the Heidenau felt on blacktop. Hope that helps. Have lots of fun on the TAT. Karoo3 mounted
So what are your thoughts on the Moskomoto bags? I looked at them pretty hard at the last MC show and was able to talk to one of the company guys. They do look very well thought out and I really appreciate that they test their own stuff out in the real world. What was your experience with them?
The Moskomoto 35l BC panniers have worked awesome on my Terra so far. Lots of room, easy pack-able, easy accessible , completely dust and waterproof, light weight, durable and designed by people that know what ADV/dual sport camping is all about. They are spendy for soft luggage, but worth every penny
Thanks for the feedback. So who was on the old 2-stroke (I can't quite make out what bike it is) on that ride you posted the photo from? That's a great photo showing you don't need the latest and greatest to go for a ride. I miss the 2-strokes.
That is my friend Rex on his showroom condition 1974 Kawasaki 250. The little 2-stroke Kawi took everything in stride with only some loose oil line fittings about halfway through the 800 mile trip. On the way we encountered a lot of cattle in open range and they hated the noise of the 2-stroke, Rex stampeded any herd we came across . Going fast on the blacktop going more than 55mph his gas mileage became dismal, down to 25mpg with a 2 gal tank . Awesome trip!
Hi, great looking trip. I wanted to know make, model, etc. on the windshield? I'm looking for similar size for my 2013 Terra. Any info is appreciated. New Guy
The windshield is a powerbronze for an 09 Versys on Palmer universal adjustable brackets: http://www.palmerproducts.co.uk/ with a homemade aluminium plate replacing the original black wind deflector. Awesome setup, no head buffeting from turbulent air, very quiet. Palmer products is now making an complete bolt on kit for the TR650 incl. windshield.

Looks like a Palmer Products one from the UK. Adjustable height and angle. I have their medium sized windshield and am happy with it. Or you can get their bracket and fit another windshield.
