do you run ethanol laced fuel? if you do it must be treated. anymore i do not let ethanol near the bikes, or anything else really except automobiles..
have you times this bike and verified its timed correctly? you cannot curse the motoplat until this is done...unless its just flat out losing spark. same with carb..what jets are in it? book spec? float level? these things need to be right on regardless of vintage. any old husky will light 2-3 kicks max if its adjusted right, and they tend to stay adjusted right. the stroker 250 should not be flooding or biting back at you.

yes, used up the last of the vp and added some pump to it. This bike usually starts 3 or 4 kicks , but if it don't it aint gonna start either. Worst part I had it running the day before. Timing is a issue on this bike also it would run backwards every once an while then I moved the plate a little and its been doing ok ever since.

so do you always run vp, pump or certain ratio of the two? you really cant vary from that, as it affects jetting big time. it might be time to invest in a dial indicator timing set up, bumping the plate..who knows where its at now?

your right, I have the mini 6 motoplat and someone cut out the end of the enlongated holes on the plate and it only runs forward right on the edge of the enlongated holes. Was there a standard motoplat ignition for this year like for the wr model? Maybe I need to invest in one if so.

To your Q. no I only had vp left over from when I was running it in the 79 I had to use it up so figured what the Hell...

there are three hole on the very outside of the mini 6 plate, but also 3 more where the plat bolts to the backing plate for more adjustment.
the xc is supposed to have an sem but like mine it likely grenaded early in life so the ol 'plat went on. unless you use a degree wheel, you need a dial indicator to set timing or you are chasing tail.

i run ethanol free 91 50/50 with vp110 leaded. noticeably richer all across the board, so not something you want do on a whim as it will distort jetting. i do keep 5-10 gallons of the vp on hand and mix as needed.

Well fellers, beers on me tonight! She barked the first kick no fuel on and then cranked up about the 5th kick with throttle open. At least she's consistent. It puked like a redneck the day after every holiday (me)... I have to tell you I could not ask for any thing more impressive... I don't know the jetting stats and all that stuff but when it runs its really nice. I am pretty happy with the suspension so far alot better than before no scrubbing of any kind. Front forks seem a little soft about mid range tho. could just be me tho too I'm no expert that's for sure.

Is the mini 6 worth having ? I need to investigate into the timing a lil more also . it started right up after she was warm just like usual.

I want to thank you guys for chiming in and helping with my troubles . I want this bike like a brand new one eventually and just as reliable .

Decals are on the way from phillip also, except for the blue h in the shrouds I think i'm going to try and get a sign man to make em...

the mini 6 works great if it works. just doesnt have much for light output.

amazing what a little suspension setup does!

seeping fuel taps are an issue or idiot owners who leave em on (me:rolleyes: ) if I don't get action after 4 - 5 kicks cold, I go straight to full throttle no choke and after a further 5 - 10 kicks she will splut, nxt kick will run abit then nxt it will fire up and blow all that fuel out the back.

Always look behind and make sure some numpty hasn't parked behind to give you a hand. ive spray painted a few nice bikes in my time.

the interesting thing is this happens a bit and im still on the same plug for the last 5 years.

I've noticed that plugs last forever in these bike too. Although when I run in to these kinda problems that's usually the first thing I change. I always shut off the fuel tap, I want to get in the carb next and record it and change the float needle for kicks and giggles.

My 430 Auto has a Motosplatt and I have just done a 3 hour Hare and Hounds, and she started 2nd kick from cold, played up a bit when the race started, I was in too much of a hurry, re-positioned bike so i was standing on the up side of the ground , eased over TDC, 2 kicks and we are off. Stopped on half way for fuel and she fired first time. Motor kept running even when I had a couple of track inspections with my nose! Just had it repaired by Bradford ignitions and it looks like he has done an excellent job!!

checked at Andy's store, apparently does not stock the crankcase drain kits.

    haha..

So...when measuring the sag, where are these measurements?

(If just one other rider is educated by the answer my humiliation at not being all knowing will be worth it....:o... )

what are the alternatives to too soft of the mono spring?

You can pull your measurement from any two points really,

the alternative to a too soft spring would be a stiffer one..
