400 acres of riding and whoops for miles there, I don't like them either, but Stacy trains for baja on them. I spend most of my time in the hills poking around mine shafts and hoping I don't rip a tire open lol. I don't use a JD tuner or PC5, just race map II. Eventually I will get a PC5 to play with, but I have other priorities on my list. It was about 30°F 3250 feet and the 511 seemed to run like it should from the start.

The ported air box is on the MY12 TC449. It's not really necessary until after 9000 rpm. It's actually a hindrance to me because I use low to mid power mostly for my riding and the extra air holes just makes my filter dirty. But for the moto & tarmac guys, it is perfect.

I will not worry about it then, I also ride in the low and midrange. Could you keep it a gear low if you wanted? When I rode on Sunday I felt like I could lug it more than usual.

I tossed a 13 tooth counter shaft sprocket on for this weekend, so I played around in first gear which was a gear lower than the normal (which is too low for me, 14 would be perfect). With a 13, I was traveling so slow that I kept feeling like tipping over haha, though I have to admit, traveling down really steep rocky slopes was nice in 1st using engine braking. The 449 is more of a revving 4t, but I with the bomb header it seemed like I had way more lower torque than stock.

Is it a pain to change out the c/s on these "CTS" bikes ? How long to do it ?
I went riding on New Years Eve day and my Flame out woes are really testing my patience with this bike. As I've said before I love my
511 but this problem is really wearing on me and just might get me seriously injured. So I've decided to suck it up and get a Power Commander 5.
If this doesn't fix it then I'll probably find the highest cliff I can and C-ya..........
Here's a clip from the last ride at Carnegie (one of the few places to ride given the low snow in the Sierras now). This shows how critical momentum
is on a hill and the slightest missed downshift (neutral) is costly.

Its easy to change the cs sprocket. Took me longer because I regreased everything with red grease. I can do it in under 30 minutes. Just have blue loctite on hand for the bolts.

Flame outs are generally caused by the lean bmw air/fuel mixtures on the stock ecu, especially on the TE models. Grounding does help, but isn't always the fixall. Replacing the ecu completely is the only sure way to fix them.

I agree with Tinken. It is easy. I even took out the swingarm to get better access to the shifter bolt that is a pain to get to. To replace the CS sprocket probably 20 minutes.

I tested the FMF Powercore and was a little surprised. I did not have a tach and I do not know the RPM requirement for a Husky (KTM 450 EXC is 4300RPM). 1/3 throttle I was in the 90's, 1/2 was about 96 or 97 and the max was around 112 db using a meter 20" away and at a 45 degree angle. I will now attempt a link to utube or the actual video.

So is there going to be an adapter kit available (without the Husky prices) to mate the Megabomb header on the TE bikes? I was planning on doing the full exhaust, but to throw an extra $100+ in just for adapters moves into the realm of the absurd. I can't spend like the .gov ;).

96dB @ 4500 rpm I believe. Was that 112 with the quiet insert?

You will need one of each below, except for the springs, you need two. 30 dollars for a spring is absurd! I used Moose Racing stainless steel springs 67mm at 13.99 for two! FMF does make the same part, but Ty says it is really heavy. The husky parts are about $130 dollars worth at full price, not sure if dealers can work deals on parts? #3 is not correct in the picture below, it is a copper gasket the same diameter as #5. The end of the header actually goes inside of #5 and is held in place by the two springs which attach to #4. You use your standard two TE nuts instead of buying two of #7. Why all the models didn't use this setup is beyond me, it is far superior to the TE and TXC setup. When you need to take the header off, you just pull the springs... Never have to remove the nuts and flange again. There are no graphite gaskets anywhere along the exhaust with this setup, I didn't use any silicon sealant or anything.
You can try calling FMF and asking if they have any more of the flanges they made for Ty Davis for the header to fit the TC449...

    #3 - 8000 H5995 Copper ring Gasket $24.15
    #4 - 8000 H5992 Flange $35.88
    #5 - 8000 H5994 Outer Sleeve $66.97
    #6 - 8000 H5393 Springs $29.28 Moose Racing stainless steel springs 67mm at 13.99 for two!

That is awesome Cam. Is that the stock bolt holding the silencer in place or did you replace with a different one? Race map II, JD or PC5?

no quite insert yet, that will be my next purchase. I did find the spark arrestor loose and the little bolt stripped though!
112 was pretty wide open throttle. If I had to guess at 4500 I would say it was close to 97 or 99db.

You get a couple extra hp from adding the quiet insert and it does tone it down quite a bit. I know that my exhaust without the insert sounded like an open pipe Harley.

After you finish putting your new sprocket on, make sure you loctite the sprockets two small screws. Also, I loctite my swing arm bolts. And before installing the plastic covers back on, I place a small layer of barrier grease around the swing arm bolts, this will insure that water does not penetrate into the bearings. Check the grease and loctite your lower shock bolt. We had a shock bolt come loose during a race which almost caused a dnf.
