I believe 42 is about the biggest you can go with a stock chain and 15t front, so you should be fine. If you've got half a link worth of adjustment on your tensioner, that's enough. I haven't changed sprockets on my SMS because I do a good bit of highway riding and I want to keep the RPM's down. I can still get the wheel up in 2nd or 3rd with the clutch, but I've also seen 108mph...
Thanks, problem of 38 rear is, that the bike is very lazy if you are going uphill (on tarmac).... I will also change my cans... after 1500km
I'm hoping you've already got the power up plug? If so, then get the JD tuner and your opened cans. Why wait for 1500 miles? I converted my cans to flow-throughs, got the JD and opened the airbox. After a bit of tuning, it was like a whole new bike. ETA: I live in a very hilly neighborhood and the SMS will tote the wheel all the way up the hill if I want it to, there's no lack of torque anywhere in the RPM's
No, everything is stock. Where can I buy JD in EU - as cheap as possible ... Is there really big difference? Are installation and settings dificult?
I believe they ship to Europe, there are several threads here on them, just search around a bit. Settings are easy to change and some of the threads list recommended settings for various mods. Before you buy anything else, get the Power Up done at your dealer and make sure the restrictor isn't in your airbox, behind the filter. It's a flat plate with a squiggly labyrinth on one side.
Is there big difference riding with/without JD? Is there any need to disconnect lambda or cut any other cable?
The JD with the right settings makes a huge difference in rideability by smoothing out the torque and getting rid of that low-midrange surge. You will lose a few MPG, but it's well worth it. It's a must if you're getting an aftermarket exhaust, as you will most likely be running lean without it.
For the powerup, you remove the sensor and plug the hole in the midpipe with a brass plug, then unplug the lambda and plug in a dummy plug with a resistor in it. That's all. For the JD, you unplug the fuel injector, and plug the JD into the injector and the original injector plug on the harness, then you just attach the ground wire to any good ground on the frame. Then velcro the tuner under the seat. The only thing you might have to cut is a zip-tie or two, and you will probably have to loosen the tank and lift it up to get to some connections.
IM JTEMPLE on here and he can hook you up with the full shop manual. The JD kit includes detailed instructions with photos. The Power Up is pretty straightforward and your dealer probably has the parts.
Found it, but I still do not know what do you do with connector from fuel injection throttle - because you put there connector from JD? What to do with stock one?
The JD has two plugs, one male and one female. One connects to the injector and the other plugs into the stock harness. The JD is basically BETWEEN the stock harness and the injector, it doesn't replace the stock harness.
Easy way to tell, you are adding 3 teeth and the chain wraps roughly half the sproket. Half of 3 is 1.5 links that you have to account for. Half of 1.5 (since you're shortening top AND bottom) is 0.75. If you have roughly 3/4 of a link's worth of linkleft in your tensioners before you bottom out, you'll be good. I hesitate to say yes or no definitively because of manufacturing variances and varying chain stretch. ETA: Stupid me and my math. You're adding 4 teeth, which means you need about a full link's worth of adjustment...
well id like to get a 42 sprocket rear. just hearing different stories. i heard oem chain will fit from 40 max to 42.
Please, when someone try 42 rear, tell me how is with chain? does TE have different chain? Because there is 42 rear..
Well, just my .02 here, if you are going brand new sprockets, why not get a brand new chain? I have 15 front and 40 rear and am pretty happy with it - I can hit 95mph on this lil bastid (have no idea what the redline is or end of my Rs) which is fast enuff for a lil single and 2nd pops up with ease and 3rd is breaking in nicely - I know some guys go 42 in the rear and the ones I know of, went with s new chain to accommodate - Honestly, the Exhaust, PU Kit and ECU would be my first start - Yes, more $$ then the Sprockets but the motor is so corked up from the Factory that it just needs it to perform, and perform it will
What is PU kit? Why new sprocket and not chain? Because bike has 500 miles and there is no sense to replace chain, because it's new..
