This keeps happening, and i have seen others report this. My Terra keeps dying. It is most prevalent when the bike is cold. It dies when i pull the clutch in and the revs come down right before an upshift. I have caught it a few times by blipping the throttle. A fuel injected brand new bike should not do this. A dealer is far away, and i am not confident that they have enough info to solve this. Has anyone stumbled upon a fix for the stalling? Coming off high revs to idle, and it dies. It almost bucked me off today, since no lights come on when the engine dies, and i kept shifting...nasty lockup resulted. Can i do something to the mixture, change to a different plug, or....?
We are working on a Trs650 right now with the exact symptoms;hooked it up to THEMOSS. tool and reset alloys baseline values. It helped a lot but still a. slight stumble just off idle will be doing more tomorrow keep posted.
A friend of mine got this problem, even worse, with Yamaha XT660R. It was typical for older single-cylinder motors he was told. A bit improved when changes done to O2 sensor (in the end he got his o2 sensor eliminated altogether: http://www.off-the-road.de/XT-660/XT-Power/Engine-Tuning/O2-Sensor-eliminator-XT660.html). Maybe thats the way to explore, however not while under warranty I suppose.
I have the same problem; bad when cold, still there when hot. I never know when the bike will cough, spit, and die just after taking off from an intersection and I worry about getting rear ended. As long as you keep the revs 3K or so when taking off it's OK, but it shouldn't be happening. I'm guessing it's a lean condition, but hope the dealers or Husky can get the right mapping for us soon.
I too worry a great deal about getting rear ended. It's really disappointing that they would release a bike like this. As a motorcycle safety instructor I'd be terrified to see a new rider on one of these bikes. I really encourage everyone who is seeing the issue to not just let it slide. Make sure your dealer knows your bike isn't running right and that you want it fixed. I also strongly recommend buyers to ride the bike first, and don't accept the 'it's just new, it will get better.' Mine still has the issue with 1350 miles on it.
Its not all of them, our demo and the the other 5 we sold run excellent <I admit we should run these bikes at least 10 miles or more with warm ing them up and ride normal just to let the tuning settle in after that release them onto the floor for sale and that way we can catch this before released from now on.Our demo did this slightly until a couple hundred miles, and has just a very slight stutter off idle now and then, welcome to meeting EPA , big singles seem to show this lean surge worse than others, its like every other brand most end up with JD tuners or boosterplugs etc to overcome the woes of meeting emission standards, once again great bike everyone will get it figured out asap.
My TR650 I got from Bills runs real good. Slight stumble just off idle but is rare and not an issue for me. Wish it was not there but has not been a problem. Tunken sent me this, wonder if that would fix the problem. http://www.boosterplug.com/shop/bmw-single-cylinder-20c1.html Not wild over how it works (fools the ECU into thinking it is running cooler and adds gas)
The booster plug folks are currently working on a unit for the Terra. I will probably try one once available.
You have yours back from the dealer? If so, are you saying it still has stalling issues? What if anything did they do?
Not yet. Mine is the bike BILLF is talking about above, sounds like there may be some progress, they've finally got it hooked up to the computer etc.
I seem to be suffering the same or similar symptoms. I just got my bike 3 days ago and I'm already had a couple engine cut offs. They've always been when I'm at a dead stop and starting to roll on the throttle to take off. If doesn't seem to do it above 3k rpm. I've caught it a couple of times with quick reflexes on the clutch pull in and throttle blip (this is what vintage bikes and carbs taught me heh.) I haven't ridden it long enough to observe pattern but when it occurred today, it was after the bike was off for 4 or so hours...basically a cold engine. The temperature outside is/was 68-70 degrees (atlanta).
I think its the issue Husqvarna has to address sooner than later as further sales seriously depend on ot IMHO... I'm considering purchase but I will not buy it until the problem is solved somehow. That might mean changing EFI system into BMW own one I'm afraid as it looks like Marelli does not seem to 'talk to' Rotax very well...
Dont think BMW does a lot better with this. My X-Challange had many of the same stalling problems and BMW was never able to fixed it. There has been stalling (and starting) problems on just about every version of these rotax motors. I was actulay hoping it would have been better with the Husky EFI, or at least tuneable to fix.
I was in on Saturday and took your demo for a short ride. The bike was cold when I took off and had a very noticeable stutter. It was less after it warmed up. I am impressed with the bike and hope this issue can be resolved. Curious as to why some have it and others don't. I'm wondering also if the Booster plug could fix it, and how much would it effect mileage?
i I noticed on our demo that when it sits around and just gets ridden for short duration at first ,its alot more noticeable. When ridden for a half hour or so it seems to just about completely go away.Alot of info is being fed into the ecu and takes awhile to settle in. We have already been in contact with booster plugs and on the list for them to try asap. They will most likely fix the glitch in most of them, its just part of having a big single with 10 extra hp meeting epa.My demo runs so well when warmed up good I have already committed to keeping it for myself, the booster plug should just make it a bit nicer. There are too many great reports on these bikes to not buy one as supply is going to be good for a very short while.Meanwhile we can keep plugging away trying to perfect it with the tools and tech help available .Everyone road our bike at China Hat loved it!!!
Hope there is a fix with the booster plug. I rode 30 miles to a friends house, pulled up on his sidewalk which was uphill just slightly, and when I decided to move a few feet forward, Pop, Die. Very frustrating. Trying to pick your way slowly thru some terrain going uphill would be a real problem. If you are all set to drive over something tricky and the engine dies at the wrong time, you are going down!
Adding my $.02...My bike has stumbled a couple of times at low rpms. It's not predictable, and the precipitating conditions have varied. I considered it a minor annoyance, until it happened as I turned off a side street onto a main traffic artery. Fortunately, no traffic was coming right at that moment, but if it had been a case of me trying to squeeze into a short break, it could have been ugly. I admit, I'm just a tiny bit spooked. Otherwise, I love the bike.
Mine does It too... I stalled 3 times on a short ride. It's driving me insane- it's making me wish I could throw the FI in the trash and put a flat slide Mikuni on it...
