Thanks for the link...for some reason I was thinking they were german and my concerns would fall on def ears. I generally never review a place unless it's a positive review. I'll leave it to ya'll to learn from this experience but I won't say "you should never buy from them!" You'll probably have a different experience than me. The take away is that their support is incredibly slow and not super considerate.
I have absolutely no doubt that there are variances between the bikes with regards to the frames. It took some searching but it does appear they are in Germany. http://shop.sw-motech.com/lshop,inline,137476257818471,en,1374769554-30703,,GTC,9,,.htm
The response from Twisted Throttle is exactly what I was trying to say in my earlier post. From Husky's manufacturing standpoint, they could give a rat's rear end about the form factor of their bracket except for the mounting points for THEIR parts. If they offered a factory center stand option, I'm sure their fabrication/assembly tolerances would be closer. I would not beat up on Twisted Throttle Or SW Motech for not being able to second guess the Husky tolerances. I'm still looking forward to owning one and will be happy to "fit up" what I think is a very nice piece of engineering.
The email I received today from TT is as follows: "I received word back from SW-Motech and they are suspecting that the might be a tolerance issue with the bikes. As per SW-Motech's recommendations, I'll be sending you a couple shorter bolts to replace the ones you have. Please let me know if you have any other questions." I can live with this solution. BTW I had a prior issue with a SW Motech product, via TT, for my Multistrada that were quickly reconciled to my satisfaction. So I wouldn't be too quick to cross TT off of your list.
It's a shame that the stand is plug and play for some, and for others it's a big hassle. If I was in the 'this doesn't fit' camp I'd expect a full and prompt refund from Twisted Throttle. If they change their product to say, "May work, or may require user customization, and it's your problem to figure it out", then I think they could refuse the return. FWIW, they have quickly and promptly issues two different RMA for me in the last month. The first was for Barkbusters on the Strada that clearly were not a good fit. I sent pictures and a note from barkbusters saying they saw the fit issue, and that was all it took. (I didn't return them, I put them on my Terra.) The second one was for a small toolbox that SW Motech makes to go on the front of their skid plates. Looked really neat in the pictures, fell far short of my expectations when I opened the box. I called them up, said I didn't like it, immediate RMA. That has gone back. I also think the responsibility for a solution that works is clearly on SW-Motech, regardless of Husky's tolerances. Blaine, I'd pursue recourse with your credit card vendor. Just send these two quotes from the Twisted website; We don’t carry everything from every manufacturer, but if it’s on our website: It fits It works It does what we say it will. It won't fail you when you need it most. and 60-day money-back guarantee! Unsatisfied with your purchase? You may return items within 60 days if they are complete and are returned to us in new condition.
Looking at the sw center stand and wondering if anyone has it installed with the tourtec skid plate? Any mounting issues specific to the stand and plate?
My guess you have the same issue I did with the SW-Motech center stand on the MTS 1200 with the rubber stop not staying on. I received a replacement from TT rubber stop to correct the problem. As for the issue the the TR bolts being too long i just inserted a spacer and problem has been solved.
My latest problem with a TT purchase was when I did a search for TR650 parts the R&G frame plugs were shown. Although the description didn't state TR650 I assume they would fit since the site had them showing up for the TR650 when you enter the bike on their site. Explained to TT I needed to return them and told them about the search problem and they sent me a return label. Just received my refund a few days after the return. Not always perfect, but great customer service when there is a problem.
Actually the problem I had was with an adapter plate for mounting my Givi top case. The bolt holes were not countersunk, so they sent me two new plates, one right away without paint and another later with paint. They were courteous and prompt. So I'm a return customer as a result.
