I think the only way SWM will do a street legal 2 stroke is if the old Husqvarna had a complete (or near complete design) of a modern, perhaps direct injection 2T...
Your absolutely right about white being easier to keep clean (A little counter-intuitive) Also, all black is a little too much - but that being said, I have friends that have a lot of black plastic on they're bike that look good and holds up - seems to be the application and manufacturer that make a difference. Black is also usually more UV resistant, but will show stress bends. In woods racing in my area, guys (and Gals) change plastic every year anyway.
I lift my glass to all who helped bring back SWM, which saved the Husky factory, it's workforce, and the ITA Husky DNA. View: https://youtu.be/XaKjRrc14PM
Everything looks good except that SWM logo. Ugly in my opinion. Looks like writing on a box from China at Harbor Freight.
i guess i get the best/worst of both worlds. a little wetsanding for the white every other year does the trick. black holds up to uv and fuel degradation well or at least acerbis version of it does..
Maybe "they" have been for a few years. http://www.cycleworld.com/2012/08/13/two-stroke-resurrection/ Maybe next EICMA we'll see a few fancy 2 stroke being released before euro emissions standard increases in 2017
Let me rephrase that: rumor is that they bought all design and development plans and are finalizing it. better? :P
Erik, do you have a demo for a short ride? Enduro or SM, just to feel the engine. I went for a 701, but after the SWM news I doubt whether to keep 2,4 grand in the pocket.. I live in 't Gooi..
Hi, Our shop has the SM650 in demo (our web business is located elsewhere). However we can contact the importer and arrange for the TE demo ride if you prefer. Give us a call! Ask for Henk-Jan: our sales guy! Erik
Wow. I have been gone awhile..... Any two strokes coming??? And what about that cool scramble style bike???? The logo does seem to need some help...Just happy to see something good coming out of the buyout.....AWESOME!!
I must say, I have a small butterfly in my tummy knowing that they didn't let the Italian factory go the way of to dodo bird. I understand business is business. But I am a customer and all I see is putting money above people. I am glad to see something I love not get flushed down the toilet because of bread name bull@#$it.. I for one am going follow this new endeavour with some passion as I always have. Italians build stunning things, one of them is dirt bike's. KTM should take note. The Italians are back, this time with the Chinese backing.... I have to note, you don't see the Japanese hatchet each other over money. Honour is Honour. .... Good luck, SWM.... You have my attention
The logo will stay: it is an historical brand! It takes some getting used to, but I love it now. Two stroke line-up is in development. You mean the Silver Vase? Available!
Erik: Any news/gossip on how things are coming along with a US importer, and if everything is good to go with emissions/registration in the US? Interesting that AJP is using the SWM motor in their PR7. The more companies who use SWM parts, the healthier SWM will be. I wonder what plans the Chinese backers have for SWM inside of China and the Asia area? It is one thing for SWM to compete and try to succeed in the western markets vs KTM/Sherco/Beta/GG/TM/Japanese brands... I think if they are able to bolster their bottom line by selling SWM branded bikes in China/Asia (even if they are non-glamorous 50cc-150cc bikes) that it will also ensure less sensitivity to market ups and downs worldwide. I am keeping my eyes peeled for SWM stateside in the meantime
Well all I know is that it is going well with the US importer... not sure who it is though haha! SWM will function as the R&D center for Shineray so no SWM branded bikes will drive around in Asia: but their bike will drive around under the "Shineray" brand.
