closed the end of the lower toptube, complete the lines of carb rods and intalled two gussets at the end of the upper toptube to traverse like the original TC frame rps20140111_185949.jpg rps20140111_190022.jpg rps20140111_190136.jpg rps20140111_185755.jpg

I'm sot so sure it is necessary. I don't think that is a problem area but I never had a 4stroke in these frames. I'm sure it couldn't hurt as long as it is't interfering with anything else. (like a skid plate mount or something):excuseme:Sorry, I just realized this question was directed to RUF.

if you let the motor mounts get loose ive seen them crack where the downtubes meet the lowest frame member....right where you have the gusset...
im not sure if these frames will crack here if the mounts are kept tight or not...

yes ... welding this thin alu sheet like this is real art
@ RUF ... yes thought about tempering, but have to find one with a heater for this size.
Do You think it s nessesary to temper the frame ... and how hot should it be?

just had a look on google and not worth doing with thin wall chromoly.looked on a desert racer forum making frames for off road racing cars one guy recommended normalising the weld area with heat until glowing red and leaving to cool but i would n't bother.your welds look great.

jo360: everyone is allowed to express his/her opinion freely. There are no Masters, Teachers or any kind of Superiors. Just people with more experience than others. Your opinion regarding normalising the frame after so many welds is correct. We just need to know the correct temperature and time to do that.

Builders of ch moly aircraft frames must heat all welds to glowing red normally a rosebud torch is used so as to heat the area quickly and evenly.

as chef said just get it glowing a dull red and then let it cool, chromoly is a bit different to ordinary tempering and general concensus from doing a quick search was that the higher speed at which thin wall welds negates the need for tempering, this is just the information gleened from other forums.you could do the normalising as an extra precaution.iam no expert RUF just do a bit of welding and the subject got my attention as i might try some frame mods myself.
