I have almost 400 miles on my TE630 and am happy. Like mentioned above, it's still breaking in and isn't what I'd call a wheelie monster. But, I'm happy overall. I don't get what gives with the seat complaints, I put 250 miles on it in one day and felt a lot better than I did after 250 miles on my ZX-10R (and, if I had to, I could make the trip in less than half the time on the ZX-10R )
Sorry you guys don't like what you are hearing, but sounds like I am not the only one. I rode with two former KLR owners this weekend, and they confirmed what I was thinking about the power similarity. Top speed so far is 77. A KLR will do that easy. I didn't buy it for that, but if someone is thinking of this instead of a KTM 950, which I have owned, there is no comparison. And I just rode with the guy who bought my 950 over a 100 miles of varied terrain including some single track. We are similar riders in speed and ability. He wasn't able to keep up all day on the dirt, so there you go. I can't believe you have to ride a bike 3000 miles to get it loosened up enough to make it produce as much power as smaller bikes. I want to ride it now. Not have less bike for the next 3000 mles, that is unlike any bike I have ever owned. The idea of a get together is fine, but I am most likely on the other side of the state from most of these guys. The dealer does give test rides. See for yourself. I am just giving my opinion, not trying to piss in anyones Wheaties.
Really? How much do you weigh? I've gone 80 on mine and it still had power left. The reports I've heard say the top speed is about 100. Judging by how it felt to me, I'd say 100 is more accurate.
Why don't you try to think of it in the positive light. If it takes on the longer side to break in/loosen up it'll probally last a looonng time.. Be patient.. Plus I'm sure with those huge stock cans that is killing it a bunch. Everyone knows the FI bikes need the stock cans gone, PUed and IBeated after. Took all of 400$ to do that with my 610, the FI is flawless, and I have problems keeping rear tires on mine and keeping the front down in 4th gear and below, and now with the 14T can keep it up in 5th. I was glad it took a couple thousand miles to completely loosen mine up.. It allowed me to "break in" as well..
my 06 TE610 would do 100. did do 100. Sure there is no throttle stop installed on the carb near the throttle cables? None of this sounds right. The bike should have more power and be faster.
It is FI, no carb. And I thought I read where there is no throttle stop on this. I don't think so. I would have expected 100 MPH also. I weigh 220. And I don't keep bikes long enough to want to wait for a 3000 mile break in. I am already "broken in". Maybe I have a turd, don't know. I plan on a pipe, doesn't seem like a lot of info available yet. BTW, I said I like the bike, just planned on it replacing my 525 for more dual sporting capability, but still was expecting it to equal the 525 for power.
New SM 630 I got my SM 630 last week and after my first ride I can tell how sick lean this thing is. It stalls easy when you first take off and then when cruising between 4-4500rpm it surges a lot. It is getting a little better but I can't wait to do the PU kit with a complete exhaust. My 08 610 was the same way during break in but after 1500 miles and the mods with a new exhaust the thing came right to life. Even though this bike feels like a slug now compared to my 610 it is a much better bike overall and I am confident that when it breaks in it will beat the pants off the 610! The motor is much better with the twin cam head and the hydraulic clutch shifts like butter. The gear box and sprocket combo is finally right too compared to the 610 that had the same set up on both the TE an SM that was all wrong. The new headlight, taillight, turnsignals and instruments are nicely updated and finally what they should be on a street leagal bike and there is only one key! It seems like the BMW influence has brought this bike to the next level.
Husky also has a throttle stop that they put on FI bikes as well. Remember your stock mufflers have cats in them which choke the bike a lot. I would do a little more checking on whats really going on.
Thank's That is what i want to hear from someone who has also had a 610---Now that 630 SM seems to look like it will fit between my 610TE and my 450TE --Importer phoned me this week to say the bikes have docked at the harbour here in SA--maybe a week before i can go and see it in real life ----
Something is very wrong there. Yes I understand that in order to meet all the EPA, CARB and all the other alphabet soup organizations requirements the bikes must be sold in a somewhat detuned state but 77mph is just plain silly for that bike. My 610 in bone stock form would break 100mph. As a matter of fact it's only slightly faster after being de-restricted, it's just much more responsive and more driveable. By all accounts the 630 has 8-9 more horsepower than the 610, I just can't see it being 30mph slower. You should be talking to you're dealer before whatever is wrong with that bike takes it's toll on the good parts.
The bikes need about 20-30 hours (600 miles) of easy riding to loosen up enough to be tuned properly. It's not really a lot of time, just a couple of short 20 mile rides around town every day and in 2 weeks it's done. You could knock that down to 1 week if you wanted with some longer rides. At that point, take it to the dealer and make sure all the stuff is off and put a pipe on it. Easy 100mph bike
When my 2006 TE250's throttle stop was in place, the throttle only turned 1/8 turn, instead of the normal 1/4 turn. Does everyones throttle turn the full 1/4 turn?
This sounds more like it. I am also having the easy stalling issue. I'm still getting used to the power delivery from a stop, though. Coming from 1000cc sportbikes, it's quite the change. Mine will stall if you're at a mid to high RPM, pull the clutch and let the throttle go. The slight dip it makes below idle when the revs come back down is enough to kill it. Hall's suggested I turn the idle up. Stock idle is 1650 rpm, mine is at about 1750 right now and the stalling has stopped. I don't like the idea of making it idle higher than it should, personally. I'm hoping once the engine loosens up, I can turn the idle back down. I'm pretty sure mine will turn 1/4. It feels pretty far to me; feels farther than my ZX-10R was, even. The tranny is like butter! The bike shifts so easily and smoothly. Neutral is kind of tricky, again until the engine loosens up.
The 610 was the only FI model that DID NOT come with a throttle stop.. total guess on if the 630 would come with one..
