When I lived in Oklahoma I bought my WR250 from Bills and even after paying $250 shipping I saved $1,500 over my nearest dealer who was a 3 hour drive away. I got tax and a street legal tag for it for another $150 in OK if I had a farm tax # it would have cost me only $35. State to state regulations are so different, it really makes no sense why.:excuseme:

George got one as a template for his skid plate...normally he would not order 2-strokes for floor stock, just no demand.

    So, stock....

A couple of older guys order 2-strokes but CA red sticker restrictions keep demand low in SO. CAL

Not much 2 stroke demand in the desert.

I had a bike shipped from Kansas to Oregon for $300 last summer. And still saved about a ton of money on the deal vs. buying local.

With all its 'issues' Washington state does allow us to plate offroad bikes if we get them into pretty much street legal configuration and have them inspected by a state certified shop. Then you have to re-title it (tax $$) and MUST maintain both plates(tax $$) AND off road tags(tax $$) or loose the plate.
Each year you renew your license plate tabs and your ORV tabs. (tax $$)

But I have a plate on my CRF-250x and anything else I want to (TE300 or ???).

That's interesting. I rode this weekend up here in NorCal (Georgetown), and of the 25 or so bikes I saw at the various staging areas 5 were 4 strokes. Everyone wants a light weight bike for the woods up here.

I'm not sure who you dealt with, but I bought my 125 from Williamsport Honda / Husky and couldn't have been happier with the way I was treated. I dealt with Andy and Broc and they were both great. Without trying to sound like an advertisement, I felt like I was buying from enthusiasts that were just as into the sport as I am. I can and do recommend them.

All two stroke off road bikes built after 2002 are designated as red sticker bikes. They are restricted by season, and even restricted from being operated at all in certain areas. That's why people don't want to buy them so much here in California. In my area, they are banned from public riding land from May 1st until October 1st. In other areas further north, they are allowed all year round. If that seems bad, it used to be worse. Right after they made the silly law, the riding season down here was from December 1st to January 31st for a few years! It was hardly worth buying a new two stroke at all!

I just found it interesting how there is a difference between north and south. I'm sure the fact that the three OHV areas closest to me are year-round red sticker legal helps. However I bet that down in someplace like San Diego 2Ts aren't so popular due to the terrain (and probably the red sticker thing).

And on top of that some places such as Camino Cielo from SB to Santa Ynez is restricted to plated bikes as are many National Forest Roads so it is in any manufacturers interest to have a 50 state legal version of their off road bikes for the big state of CA and elsewhere.

Huh, that's weird, DMV told me a Plated bike can go anywhere a Green Sticker can go. This stuff is so frustrating. I really need to get out of CA.

Yup, plated bikes can. You can't plate a two stroke though, or any 4 stroke (closed course MX bike) that is a red sticker bike. Only four strokes that pass emission standard can be green stickered or plated. They have to have a federal and California EPA sticker that came from the factory on them also.
