This part is correct, which certainly implies acceleration...

Unless someone likes bouncing off the rev limiter while WOT for some reason.

EDIT: Larger throttle opening at higher rpms (not just max).

Ok....somebody has to say it: " Don't do it, Churchill"

At least not with the stock Can remaining on the single side. Probably constipate the poor gal, not to mention the amputation trauma. I think you would need a much more open, free-flowing muffler to compensate for the loss of volumetric area (2 to 1). The stock cans are pretty plugged up. You might be able to gut it out (to open up).

The bike is so well balanced, as is, that I personally don't think it will make a significant difference to your "pick-up-ability" factor. You'll likely pack on more weight than you take off, anyway. At least that's my case.

    Just stop falling down!

I was repeating what the guy at Dynojet told me on the phone who I have known since 2009 - the injector duty cycle approaches 100% at the larger throttle positions, at the higher rpms. Otherwise the injector duty cycle does not approach 100%.

    I edited my previous post.

Does anyone know if there is an aftermarket exhaust yet? Skimmed the net but cant find anything.

Planning on getting the PCV in the near future. Also want to dump the cat's. I like the dual exhaust look...on a 400lb bike going single and possibly saving 10lbs, does it really matter. It's like going to McDonalds and having a diet coke.

Besides a different rooting of the header pipe, the pipe it's self looks to be the same diameter as a 650GS, same can mounting flanges too. Just by looking at pic's from the net the two brothers can should fit pretty good. Just need the autotune to sort the mapping out......or if some awesome guy has already developed a map for an exhaust ill send him a Tim Horton's gift card in the mail lol.

Cant find the post where a guy said he was going to try it.

Anyone else contemplating something like this?

Nope. I heard that the amputation could possibly give a heat issue. With two cans, the heat is dissipated better. Moving to one can will make that can uber hot, and trust me, even with two, you will burn you skin if you grab one, so your plastic might not like you for the mod.

Yeah, those cans have catalytic converters in them. if you're gonna go with only one, i'd gut the remaining one, if only to keep the heat down. (and as HF says, allow a little more flow)

Huh, wouldn't removing the cats actually make the (factory/dual) cans cooler? Cats get uber hot to burn off excess fuel but also restrict flow a bit. It kinda seems to me that geting rid of that excess heat source (cat) combined with getting the heat out faster would make them somewhat cooler. IDK, I really haven't put much thought into it to tell you the truth.

I'll tell you next week if it runs any cooler/better without the cats.
I took them out when I fitted a pcv, I also took a piece out of
the side of the air box(at the back of the rhs side plastic0 about
2" x3" as the hole it breathes through doesn't seem big enough.
I'm trying to get someone to make me a link pipe to join the front
pipe to a 690 ktm akra, once this is done I'll get it on the dyno and
    post the results up here.

Thanks for sharing, Scotty. How did you remove the cats? Looking very much forward to your results on the dyno.

Always the possibility one of the BMW X bikes has a swing arm that would bolt right up.

Tyga carbon exhaust, with 44 to 50mm adapter and restrictors ( rough calc to pass about the same flow as std). One in the muffler inlet and one in the outlet). Not overly loud and VERY light ( 900gms plus fittings).
Plus is an stainless 316 inside outside sleeve with a stainless plate. The plug has an acoustic damper in as well to break up any back wave.
I am hopeing to find a fabricator who can make me either a link pipe or a whole header to muffler when I can find the exhaust valve timing and can calculate the correct length. I will go for torque rather than horses though.
