• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Terra or F800GS

Personally I find the weight of the TR650 is about as much as I would want to deal with. I can still ride it offroad and move it around in the garage, and even put my bike stand under it and get it up in the air to work on - barely.

No Husky Moss Tool in Canada. I worry about that alittle, it is a diagnostic tool that may be needed in the future for things like the imobizer, error codes etc. Closest Husky Moss Tool to me is 16-20 hours away so that creates a problem for Canadian owners. Probably resale will be weak and parts will be alittle harder to get, especially if the bike is discontinued. I bought mine before the sale of Husky to KTM so I expected to have the Moss tool available at the dealer (8 hours away) and I didn't know it could be a 1 or 2 year wonder. Would I buy this bike if I knew then what I know now...YES, I LOVE the bike, I LOVE the style, I LOVE the performance!! It is pretty exclusive where I am, no one has seen one and the DMV hadn't registered one in my province until mine, I guess the hassle of owning this Italian beauty is the cost of doing buisness. The bike is AWESOME!!

Weight is a big deal. My morning ride consisted of turning the bike around on uneven ground infront of my tiny garage, there is no way to turn it around inside. My driveway is downhill to the garage. For fun, I fire it up and let it idle (three minute rule is bull), then push it up the driveway and lock the gate. I'm just trying to build my strength and abilities to maneuver this beast of 400 plus pounds.

So on the ride this morning, I head down a dirt path which turned into a wash. Steep banks, then sand bottom. I went about a 1/4 mile before I had enough. Problem, how do you turn around on sand. Stop and you are dead. I aimed it up the bank, and then backed it back down, bumped it forward again and was stuck, crossways in the wash. Man this thing is not easy to drag. Trust me, I was wishing I had my 300 lb XL500 or even the blasted scooter. I did get it turned with moderate effort and onto a grassy patch, and it was go time again. Arizona gets warm early and it was about 90 degrees already, so needless to say, that with full gear, pushing and pulling and running along side the bike while under power, will work up a good sweat.

And of all days to be without camera, I am not going back in for a photo shoot.

Coming back over where I just was, I could see my furrow snaking its way along the wash. Yes, there was no straight line, and I do not like sand and deep loose gravel.

Point is, I doubt if any of the heavier bikes would have had a chance.

The worst thing for me is going down an unknown track which gradually gets steeper and steeper and you start to think, "hmm now I've got to get back up this"...

Terra ownership in Canada seems like to much of a hassle. I realize the F800GS is a more pricey option. Has anyone ridden both so they can comment. Thanks.

Wanna buy my F800GS? She's mobile, agile, & hostile....race ready! You'll love it. Fly to Oklahoma and enjoy a nice long ride home.

I'm keeping my Terra.

Nuff said.

I must ask you learned guys if the limited suspension travel has been much of an issue. By counts the TR ticks most boxes, just wondering about bottoming out constantly etc. Love to hear your views guys.

I've not found it to be an issue, though to be honest, my riding style (if you could call it that, slow) rarely finds the limits of any suspension unless it is an "uh oh" moment. Thing is, for whatever reason I don't seem to have any "uh oh" moments with the 650.

They have to be the buy of the year don't they basically half the price of a KTM 690.
