I'd been wearing Tech 8's for years, but the whole bootie thing...I dunno...it got cumbersome and I wanted something new. I tried the Tech 6's and loved them. Much narrower, no bootie to deal with, much more comfortable right from the start, and they held up way better than any other boot I've owned. I was needing to replace them when I broke my ankle last June. The motorcycle patrol guy ended up kind of cutting them to get them off but I never threw them out. Good thing. When I started riding my streetbike to work after healing, I couldn't put my street boots on anymore. Still can't. Got a pair of Dainese and a pair of Tech 6s's (same boot at Tech 6, but the kid's version so they're more sleek on the streetbike and fit better in my locker at work) but can't stand to put either of them on yet. The only boots that I've been able to stand for any length of time is my old cut-up Tech 6's. That is, until last Thursday. Went to Zoom Cycles in San Jose and found a pair of silver Tech 6 Stellas. Same boot but made for women (bigger calf, narrower footbed.) They were listed at $279 but I got `em for $200 out the door. They fit great and don't start hurting my ankle til after I get home from work  And they're silver! Can't remember the last time I owned boots that weren't black. I like `em! I kinda don't want to wear `em in the dirt because they're so pretty:o

Eric wears Sidi Crossfires. He loves `em, but he's hard on equipment and he doesn't like paying for them. He tried on every pair of boots under the sun and kept coming back to the Sidis. He found a pair of red ones at the International Motorcycle Show for super-duper cheap so he bought them. He always wore black boots, too, so we're quite the sparkly pair now:lol:

I tried the Sidi's but they are way too tall for my legs. I can hardly bend my knee because the boot is in the way...even the kid's version is too tall.

Kicked a giant rock at speed, dropped a rather large TE610 (peg first) on my ankle, and other silly things and I'm sure I'd have broken my foot/ankle twice now if it wansn't for these guys.

They have replaceable soles, you can clean them with soapy water and a brush, squirt WD-40 on them so they don't squeak. They work well for toe/shifter fit, they're made in Italy and they give you an extreme advantage during roadside brawls.

That is how I broke my tib/fib - bike did a wheelie and then slammed the footpeg into my ankle on the ground.

My ankles squeak when I'm not wearing the boots, I'll try wd40 on my ankle

Another plus on the Gaerne SG10's. They do feel broken in from the box and the low profile toe is a bonus for shifting.

I really like the Berik RC's. Very comfortable, durable & are great protection in Front & rear is similar to the Gaerne style calf protection, also has a pivoting ankle system & only AU$299. I'm on my second pair now, first ones lasted 18 months & are still in good nick.

ordered 11's but had to get the blue. I figured it have so little color on it it will not matter. I usually wear over the boot pants anyway.

Thanks Kelly, I only looked at the red link. I can do blue at that price, since Gaerne seems to have lost my sponsorship request!:busted:

Most here seem to prefer what I have always considered the best boots - Sidi's and Gaerne's. These also seem to have a wider toebox that I need. A-stars I can't wear at all. I've been using Sidi Crossfires for a few seasons now and love them. Mine have held up very well. They are the most comfortable MX boot I've ever had and require no break in. Prior to that I went through a couple pairs of the Sidi Force Flex's. They offered great protection, but were brutal to walk in.

I've looked at the TCX's with interest, but never been able to try a pair on. Any speak to the toebox width?

Well it's official now, since the Forma Dominator I ordered for me were too tight across the top of the foot (even the booties by it's self) my son wore them around the house for a while and took them for himself..........so, last night after trying several boots in the last couple weeks, bought a pair of Aplinestar Tech7 for me and put my old Tech5 into retirement.

i've destroyed 2 pair of the cheapies (fly 805 and o'neal element) this past year. i have a pair of oxtar tcx pro which i think are really really durable, but i think the toe box is a bit narrow..they don't leak like a sieve like the o'neals. the fly 805's were way better at waterproof-ness than i had expected but were so wide they always bumped the shifter... if i'm gonna ride for a long time i usually wear the cheapies - short (less than 3 hours) i wear the oxtar's.. but since the cheapies are both destroyed (soles falling off..) i gotta find another comfortable sub $200 quality boot - maybe the forma dominators... hows the waterproofing on them?? (i ride in the snow a lot so waterproof is a huge issue...) and how narrow are they?

I think this is a rite of passage for fathers, when the son gets big enough to wear shoes about the same size as dad. Soon after that they continue to grow and grow some more.

At least that is how it was in my situation, sort of a magic moment.

Very good on the water proof department for me so far but I only have a few rides. standing in a creek about half way up the boot for a minute, no wet socks. First waterproof boots I have had.

As for width they are good for me, very comfortable but i have regular width feet and with is seldom an issue for me.

true.......but sometimes I find myself questioning if that's magic in a good mystical way, or magic in how fast a 17yr old can empty my wallet.

My son has 10/10.5 D width foot and finds the Forma 10 comfortable. Most footwear I have is 9.5 or 10EE or like tennis shoes I have on now 10EEEE, plus have a high arch and I found the Formas a bit snug. (actually they fit well w/o the booty inside)
Going up a full size to an 11 may have worked, but now heaven forbid I have the same stuff on as the kid :) , so went the other route mentioned

you were there? (sorry I missed you)
20% off everything wasn't too bad........enough to get the Tech 7 down to $230
