yea i missed that one i was thinkin the 125 was theres it looks a little diffrent from 250/300 motor the 250 4t looks like yamaha topend
yep, 2t is GasGas and 4t is Yamaha. I know the is Robert's TM thread, but these Fantics make me weak in the knees!!!
I used to ride with a couple of guys that had tm's. They were both 300 enduros and one was a 2001 model, the other was a 2002. From what I remember they both had hard-hitting power, were gorgeous, and I wanted one LOL! I would love to try a 144 enduro .
I would hazard a guess that a tm144 with head/compression mods and running avgas or racegas could easily make more bottom end / midrange than a 167/175. I ran the high compression base gasket and avgas in my 125, and it was very strong. I much prefer stock parts over one-offs / oversize. OEM is also more attractive than a frankenstein when it comes to resale, or a quick rebuild.
Sorry tm_enduro but the 144 can't make the bottom/early mid I want. With high compression/race gas it will be good but it won't be enough. I had a highly tuned high compression 144 and it made very good bottom for a 144 but the difference with the 165 is night and day. Just a fact. I would love for TM to make the bike I want with oem parts and have sent several e-mails to the factory to see if that could happen. I haven't gotten a reply and don't expect one. I will keep trying and will line up a ride on a EN144 at some point soon.
I agree with Walt it can't have the low-mid of a WB165. My son spent a long time talking to the guys at Cycle Playground about TM's and I had him ask aout the 144's. They said it was an awesome engine with a little more power than a Husky 144 overall. Even with HC set up I don't think it would lug with a 165. The TM 250MX my son has does handle like a dream and I wonder how the 144 TM would feel. If I thought Mr. WB could pull 165-175 cc's from a TM I would get one or if I could drop 30lbs and 30 years .
Yep the FWW helped my son's TM250MX. The RB head and carb mods made huge differences too. You can still wear the bike for a hat if you are not carefull but it takes a nano second longer to do so . I may end up with a TM 144 some day.
I love the idea of a TM, but not sure the aggressive engines that they are known for are a good fit for the terrain I ride in. I am sure Walt could find a way to make it a tractor, but the price tag would of the total package would be high.
TM's are always appealing. I considered one a couple of times, but price kept me away. In '09 when the TM125EN was $8000 and with the Husky Factory $1500 discount and what my dealer did... I paid $4500 for the '09 WR125. I bought a 144 kit and a 165 kit eventually. It still left me with money in my pocket. Last year in May, I considered a leftover '11 144EN, but it was still $1000 more than my discounted '12 Husaberg TE250. Cool bikes, but just out of my price range.....
Good deal. Cycle Playground wanted $7700 for the leftover '11 TM144EN in early '12. I was surprised when he gave me the price..... If I remember right, he didn't actually have the bike, it needed to be shipped from the distributor.
If any-body has a chance to ride a tm 144 mx or enduro, please post a ride report! I love my husky but the tm is trying to seduce me!
My son and I was invited to Budds Creeek to ride some TM's but we had something else planned the same day. Yes please post up a ride report on the 144 TM.
Take this for what it's worth, but I've owned a couple of Husky 125/144s in both WR and CR trim engine wise. The guy I bought my 125 MX off tried to sway me from purchasing it for woods use, told me it was too soft on the bottom and too aggressive. He also praised it as being the fastest 125 stock or modded he'd ever ridden. I believed him, he had a whack of bikes and most of them euro. He was right to an extent regarding the woods, but I have never had too much trouble with it. In its stock form it is very similar to a CR 125, but has slightly less bottom, and definitely more mid and top (which is hard to believe, I know). It is actually more in line with a CR 144, I would say less bottom, same mid, more top. The power builds linearly into the mid and it has 2 surges in the upper third that WILL buck you if you are unprepared. This is all in complete stock form. Now I have a Lectron and a JD Ignition on it. It pulls so hard right from the bottom that I am honestly going to gear it up from the stock 13/51 to 13/48,49, or 50. It's that or I'm going back to the stock carb. I get arm pump within minutes with the Lectron. I bet you could pass it off to an unsuspecting consumer as a bored and stroked engine when comparing it to a stock 125. My cousin has a Gasgas 125xc with a Doma exhaust, Lectron, and 13/52 gearing. We swapped bikes and he claimed mine pulled way harder. This was also a few rides back when my bike fouled two plugs inside of 30mins (have since gone 1 full turn leaner on the metering rod). I felt the same, his bike was quite a bit softer all around. Bottom line they are all good bikes. The TM's are no joke and if you are willing to take a chance, you will be pleased. Probably just as much as you were with your first Husky purchase!
I have no idea what the actual spacing is on the head studs. If the stock 144 with the electronic power valve control works as well as people say then having fat guy bottom end may only need to see a bore to 58mm for a 154 or if there is room then a bore to 60mm for the 165.
I really wish I still had my tm. Damn you lectrons solve 100% of the issues with 2 strokes for me. I can dial in 4 strokes easily but 2 strokes are much more touchy for me. I love them but the jetting on the 250 is why I sold it.
Cam how does the tm 450 compare to other bikes in its class? I really would love a 250f afraid to bail on what I know though 250fs can be so problematic.
