Unexpected benefit of the SW Motech crash bars..........."look Ma, no hands." And no bent up coat hangers either. I expect the Altrider bars may make this a little more difficult since the bar runs right in front of the drain plug.
I am hoping next weekend. I got the bars at the main house, but the bike is at the cabin 2.5 hrs away. I might have to go back to carting the bike back and forth.
Installed my SW Motech bars last night. Followed the directions, but I am not sure about the spacing. It seems like in most of the pics I can find on the SWmotech site the "circles" sit flush with the frame. However the directions show that you use all the spacers and this keeps the bars from touching/meeting at the frame. Here is a picture of mine installed, it looks just like the install paperwork, and I am not sure if the top crossbar would even align if I moved the spacers to get the "circles" to meet the frame. Is this how the bars should look, or did I screw up in my haste?
Based on this pic it looks like that big space is correct. Seems odd, but it just goes to show ya, read the WHOLE thread--don't know how I missed em. I am off to search for electrical gremlins.
I don't have my instructions handy but here is mine. I also installed the Skidplate and left out the corresponding spacer that came with the bars "if that makes sence" The bars do need a big spacer on the right facing the bike though.
Come on guys........lets see those Altrider crash bars. Somebody on the west coast must have them by now.
Bugger. Just picked up my SW-Motech crash bars this evening. Went to fit them tonight and they don't fit with the B&B bashplate Will have to make some mods to the B&B. The plate comes up too far and is in the way of the lower engine mount for the bar. Will need to ponder it a bit more
Message from altrider regarding their crash bars as of yesterday approximately 1pm est... "Hello Dean, Thank you for your interest in AltRider. We currently have 1 set of silver in stock. We are expecting the black early next week and we have 3 sets still available. Please let me know if I can help with anything else." I placed an order for a set of the black bars yesterday..
Concerning the SW-Motech bars, they come with zinc plated hardware for mounting. With the skid plate in place, the lower mounts are not seen. However the upper mounts are visible, and that shiny annoys me. It also helps that I ruined one of the bolts. The good news is that they are easy to replace. They are M10x1.5 low profile hex bolts, in 60mm and 80mm lengths, one for each side. Fastenal carries them in powdercoat black, which is much more appealing to the eye. My new bolts arrive tomorrow. I will post up pics when I get them installed.
Below pics show the conflict between B&B Bashplate and SW-Motech crash bars. It is possible that the Altrider bars may have the same issue. I'm going to have to trim 10-15mm off the top of the plate and the top of the bracket, and lower the mounting holes. Clips turned sideways 90 degrees
I'm anxious to see pics of the AltRider bars installed. I truly believe they have a good design. I just couldn't wait any longer, and was forced to cancel the order and go with SW-Motech.
"A manufacturing process has delayed the bars until this Friday." Will just have to wait a few more days I guess
My silver bars should be at the dealer today, I will try to get them ASAP and installed so inquiring minds can view the pics!
Latest update on the black Husky crash bars: They are being powder coated today, and should be ready to ship Friday. As we have already informed you, the original ship date was today but unfortunately the manufacturing took a little longer than expected. We apologize for the delay-- we appreciate you sticking with us while we get this sorted out.
