Rumors are around 7K. USB power ports (very cool as i use my cell phone for GPS a lot) and optional ABS.
Save your cash. Same HP and 70 heavier than a 630? A step backward if you ask me. BMW is neutering Husky They already have the Sertao, what's the point of this?
Built to compete with the great selling DR650. Low price. long range capable, wide trans, proven robust long lasting engine that holds a lot of oil, Lots of goodies / creature comforts like optional ABS and USB ports. Seems like a perfect light weight adventure bike to me. It is not a dirt race bike with a plate i is a purpose build long range exploring bike. It is what it is. Less money, more power, dirt, DS, better forks, better exhaust, better looks... adventure bikes are all going to be sold under Husky, thats why they bought them. I like it.
Assuming they did not change it from the BMW version. I see no reason why they would if only to make it wider as it has more power. I have ridden the G650 and it will go 80 MPH cuzing all day EZ.
The Terra with a 18" rear wheel does look much better then the Sertao with the conventional forks, low hung exhaust and the duck bill front end. The Terra will no doubt be a better dirt scoot then the Sertao. To bad Husqvarna couldn't have given the TR's a a lighter chassis to go along with the motor mods.
That weight issue is always a give-and-take over performance and durability I'd guess ... Plus for hiways, weight is not such a bad thing .. Are these the first versions of these engines with EFI?
No several of the BMW versions have been EFI for many years. X-challenge / x-country and other models... Even fuel pumps on E-bay for them http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Intank-...llenge-2006-2007-/380444950002#ht_2753wt_1163
The engine is pretty much all proven technology then ... So the frame and suspension is the Husky designers baby? Or is this frame design out there already?
I don't even see this bike as competition for the DR650. With only 190mm suspension travel front and rear thats in the KLR650 territory which is just sad. Most SM bikes and even the big F800GS has more than that. At 180kg+ this bike, loaded up with rider and gear, will gobble that travel up real fast on the smallest of G outs unless they make the suspension so firm it rattles you bones, which I doubt they will do. As for price range here in Oz the DR650 rolls out the door for under $8000 and Suzuki regularly do offers through the year were they knock another $500 of the price. The TE630 heavily discounted was still over $11000. Does anybody believe the new Terra will come in under what the TE630 was selling for? I guess Im just a disappointed TE owner . I like the look of the bike but the reason I bought my TE610 over the DR650 in the first place was less weight and more suspension. That table has now turned. I guess this bike will appeal to those who like the G650GS but want an edgier more dirt oriented look and image. Which means BMW will just be attracting their own customers. It certainly won't appeal to those who are looking at the KTM690 which is where my money will go when the time comes to replace the 610. Hey maybe they will surprise us and bring out a light weight TE version with proper suspension but I won't hold my breath.
I am impressed with the fuel economy (and thus the range it gives) that the BMW engine gets compared to my TE-630. If my conversions are right it is about 55 MPG at 75 MPH. Just pu the motor in the 630 frame
Going to be interesting to see how this bike shakes out. i know if it a heavy pig but somehow I like it. Big reliable motor and all day exploring.
