I have resigned myself to not paint it, at all, and leave it unrestored in that regard, just give it a good clean up, and leave all the wear scratches and graphic scrape offs, also in the fotos its not there, but I do have all the front fender and fork brace stuff as well.
22hp at 5800 rpm factory calls for 70:1 thats what Im mixin' at. Need to pull carb and verify whats in it and see if I can find the oem spec.
I miss my Trials bike, I need to get another one. Some of the best concentrated bike control skills you can get. Later,
tore her down quite a bit more this eve. tried to salvage the steering bearings no-go cleaned and with fresh grease still feel like shock clickers when cycling the steering. races will be tough to remove but we will git er done.
sick move yer bustin there Jake!! and without a freakin parachute, that's core dude!!! not much teardown tonight but cleaned a bunch of parts, so some are ready to reinstall, frame and triples will go to shop for steering head bearings install- probably torch and 4 sets of hands. sent in order of a couple of specific parts to see if they are available from Betamotor Italia for such an old beast. The parts needed are a bushing, which I have one of to replicate if needed and the OEM chain slider which can also be cut to fit from a general fit one or similar one in design no worries, but for sure the cut in half standard roller type aint gettin it!!! (thats what was on it with nothing on the bottom of the swingarm that now has chain cuts in it)
Good call for sure, but truth is it's not bad, just some surface scraping not deep crack inducing gouges, I'll just feather it out as is.
I need to shout!!! BETA USA IS AMAZING----I ORDERED new INTAKE BOOT AND MANIFOLD (both rubber parts had cracks) and a bushing. ALL PARTS WERE AT MY DEALER ( C&D CYCLE SAN DIEGO) WITHIN 3 DAYS........THIS IS NOT A 2013 bike ITS Freakin 1992 BETA ZERO TRIALS BIKE.....I mean how many are even in the US.... HELLO other brands support your products !(I my experience Honda is good for stock on ancient bikes) As usual for EU bikes those particular items were used for almost a 10 year cycle of models, smart tech smart engineering and very cost effective, the same reed cage/intake manifold was used from aircooled late 80s-mid 90s liquid cooled Beta trials models. ANyway shes coming along well- steering head bearings are here and need to be R&Rd, one more suspension bushing, new reeds and I will commence full reassembly. (not really much to assemble...its a trials bike) One more cool thing, because its an Italian the wire harness is full on street, brake lites, horn etc etc etc it even came with the OEM mirror and the tail lite assy and wiring in a parts bag....for now I just registered it normal dirtbike but it could be easily done up in street mode.......
I had the same parts ordering experience when I owned my 99 Beta. The design of the bike was excellent which made me want another Beta bike. In general off road motorcyclists are good friendly people and the trials crowd is at the top of that bell curve.
I have a '98 Montesa Cota 315R. It needed almost everything when I got it including frame cracks re-welded. Almost every bearing not inside the motor, foot rests, sprockets, brake pads, kickstand, the cracks in the weld at the steering head, fork seals. I just noticed the rear wheel is missing 2 spokes and has one broken one flopping around. But hey, it's a practice bike. It's fun, but I'm starting to think the motor might be needing a top end. Sounds a little noisy to me, but I'm new to this particular motor. It's a fun little practice bike, I haven't been able to get my trials course laid out all the way just yet in the back yard. I have 12 acres to play with. I've mainly just been doing figure 8s, balancing, and wheelies...lots of wheelies.
SHes coming alng well, shop has the chassis to install steering bearings. after that bike is close to being ready for reassembly. still want to sort out the carbby and the spark plug. It had a B6 plug vice the B8 called out OEM that's 2 ranges hotter, jusy wondering why?? OEM takes precedence
Probably bloke ran too much oil in pre mix so needed to be hotter to burn it off, these ouppues dont rev high very often so less is better.
The Beta Zero is very close to being done, forks are complete (built one good set from 2 sets). tires are on rims, carb and new manifold and boot are on subframe with airbox all mounted up. even got my new chain slider on the swing arm and my shock linkage is all back together. She is close for sure. I have one issue to deal with on the rear caliper the pins must have stripped and the previous/previous owner rigged up SAE threaded screws for a real shit show. I have a new idea to implement. She is starting to look a lot more like this one now---
I had a 2000 Beta Rev3 with the upside down forks. It was a great bike and one my brother competed on for several years. I picked up a 2012 Gas Gas Raga Replica last year primarily to train with. I seem to be attracted to bike brands that are kaput. Besides making a great camp play bike, I bought it to improve on my riding skills. The older I get, the more skills I need. Watching Graham Jarvis do amazing things on a TE300 will get you hooked on trials.
