That´s clever! I did notice that my CCM was a lot niftyer when it lost its plate some time ago. But (I take it) the drag would be more noticeable at higher speeds and my top speed around town is about 60 mph. The new plates (they say) will be legal towards the end of this month: 18 x 20 cm.
So therefore x+3 multiplied by the square area is <y plus 4. So you will see a 6hp gain and a top speed of 93mph. The science is amazing!
So I went ahead and ordered the Arrow Twin exhaust w/ ECU. All positive feedback and reviews and I like the fact it requires no real tuning...programmed specific for the bike. More to come...
AND ... it´s street legal (with "Husqvarna" stamped on it) which the Leo Vs aren´t. The end bits look a lot better too.
After doing as much research as possible I bought the twin Arrow pipes from my dealer. Being very excited with my new parts I overlooked the fact that there was no spark arrestor. I went ahead and installed the pipes and ECU. All I can say is LOUD!! From idle up...obnoxiously loud. You have to love how Husqvarna has a silencer/ spark arrestor insert for the 449 and 511. Not for the 630. My guess is more people are going to be disappointed with these pipes. Being too loud on the street will likely result in getting a ticket. Having no spark arrestor could potentially start a forest fire and again result in a ticket or court date. Having said that I returned the pipes back to the dealer. Husqvarna really should say in their special parts catalog; "These pipes are for off road use/ closed circuit use only." The only mark on the pipes is "E3" what ever that means. Husqvarna does not list the sound decibels so how would you know how loud the pipes are unless you install them? Husqvarna sells a factory accessory designed for a dual purpose motorcycle. Did they think people would not use their bikes for its intended purpose?? I’m very disappointed. I really should listen to my own advice. Never assume anything, always ask even the most basic questions. To anyone with the twin Arrow pipes, if you’re happy and not bothered by the authorities great. I'm happy for you. To anyone thinking about buying a set in the U.S. do me a favor. Ask your dealer the following questions: 1. What is the sound decibel level for the pipes? (I would love to here this, no pun intended) 2. Is there a USFS forest approved stamp? (We know there is not) 3. Is there a factory optional spark arrestor insert (As of right now there is not) 4. Why am I spending over a $1,000 for slip on pipes I cannot use legally...on or off road? My 2c
I had them installed last thursday, and u are right, these are not the quietest pipes around. There are DB-killers which are placed where the slip-on meet the headers. The dealer first tried without these but decided to install them after listening. If u are on the bike it's loud, but feed back from my buddies was "sounds good, not too loud". So question is if you installed the cans with the DB-killers in or not, should make a difference... Anyway, I DO like the better performance Good luck on finding a replacement...
Great to hear, Dutchie. I put my order in for a set a week ago despite reading about the sound levels. As soon as it arrives I'll take a measurement with a meter on the stock and Arrow cans.
Dutchie, can you tell us more about the "DB-killers" you had installed? They may be the only way to keep the Arrow pipes sound level reasonable. Regarding my comment on the sound level of the twin Arrow pipes let me explain further. There is no way to drive slowly at a low rpm, in a tall gear to make the bike quiet(er). For example, an FMF Quiet core pipe can be loud on a big bore four stroke engine if you want it to be. Around town it's reasonable if cruising at the posted speed limit. Crack the throttle wide open and rev it up....yea, it barks. I had no way of manipulating the gears and engine rpm to "quiet down" the pipes. I hope that makes sense. Again, my 2c
Sure that makes sense. As for the DB-killers, I don't know more than what the wrench told me, so I cannot really help. Only thing that would make sense is that these should be part of the kit, otherwise he wouldn't have bothered to try them. On the other hand, these are not the bikes to be ridden slowly as you described in order to keep the sound (noise..) down. If that's what you would consider, better try some other pipe, so you can flog it, and don't have to miss out on the fun this 630 is I hope you find a way to ride it hard and keep the DB's at a level that's comfortable for you..
Dutchie- I really did love the power, look and sound of the twin Arrow pipes. Unfortunately, where I like to ride loud is bad. I can't sneak into places that I rode as a kid without being noticed...or heard. I wasn't aware of any DB-killers at the time so I returned the pipes to my dealer. I am going to try the Leo Vince enduro slip-ons. They have a USFS approval stamped on the pipes. The Leo's also come with a removable spark arrestor. My dealer has ibeat software so if needed they can tweak the settings for me. According to Leo Vince no tuning is necessary. I'll see how my bike runs once I get the pipes. When I was 16 years old my father bought me a 1987 Suzuki quad racer 500. The guy he bought it from had an FMF pipe and silencer installed. Now that was friggin loud !!. I loved it!!
Rode a demo yesterday with Arrows fitted, they do sound quite loud and some poppin on the overrun. Also did seem to attract attention as folks looked as i went past.Nice though !.Have ordered a 630 SM cant afford the pipes though.
Right now I don't know what I want to do. Basically, you have 3 choices: 1. Leave the exhaust as-is. 2. Get the Arrow cans and ECU. 3. Get a single sided system and a Power Commander. The stock system is very heavy. The Arrow cans look nice and the included ECU eliminates any tuning hassles you incur by messing with the exhaust system. However, they're only a few lbs. lighter than stock, I hear. The Leo Vince full Ti system is a whopping 17 lbs. lighter than the stock system, but you're then left to your own devices for tuning. I really want the weight savings from the Leo Vince system. But, I really don't want the tuning headache. I also don't want to drop all that money on the Arrows for very little weight loss. Heck, I probably dropped 5 lbs off of my bike when I removed the passenger pegs.
I didn´t weigh my old zorst before fitting the Arrows (could still do that as they´re still on the shelf). The weight of the twin Arrows should be in their sales literature. But I was astonished at how much lighter the Arrows were. I dropped the pillion pegs and the old battery for a very small lithium MOTY. I´m anything but a `puter nerd and much too thick to understand all that Power Commander mumbo jumbo. The Arrows can´t be all that loud ... or they wouldn´t have been EU certified (as stamped on the can).
I spoke with George at Uptite Husky today and in his skunk works he is working on a single exhaust for the 630 and a new throttle tube (sound kind a like a G2 throttle tube). I am going to wait and see what he comes up with....
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7GBhuAZh5q4 Anybody seen these? Italian so probably loud as hell. I don't have any other info as all comments are in Italian... sweet lookers, though!
Got them in last Thursday from MotoXotica. As soon as I finished installing them I fired the bike up. I had a big ass . The sound is deeper/throatier. Blip the throttle -braap braaaap braaap...it's definitely louder, but not as much as I expected after reading some reviews. Next week I'll do a db test. Didn't have time this week. Btw each can weighs a little over 3lbs. Stock = 7lbs. Power delivery is a little smoother now. Throttle isn't as jolty in first gear. Nix that.
. May31 -seems the pipes have quieted down a decibel or two since burning in a bit. Still throaty, but not as loud after first installing. Or I'm going deaf. But I wear earplugs.
