The noise is heart wrenching i know! I only ask because if no one is being hurts its not really a problem to them. Which sounds terrible to say. But the risk of a lawsuit is minimal at best.
Kevin at KTM NA called me today and said they are mailing out letters soon to all owners stating they are working on the stalling issue but do not have a solution to this problem. Old news
Each TR owner should make sure that their dealer has a correct mailing address, if they are no longer in business call KTM NA at 1-440-985-3553 and give them your address. When you receive this letter please forward a copy to NHTSA. I think BMW is key to this resolution.
P.S., Just got off the phone with Husqvarna,N.A. and they are trying to tell me there is no recall on my Terra, what kinda crap are they trying to pull here now ?!?!?!?!!?! Guys, I never received anything from safercar.gov ,but visited the site today, found this and it lists those who have submitted complaints on bad running I did find my complaint number listed, last four is 0631. I got mine Feb of 13 and rode it all of 13, rode most of 14 had little problems, then mu old hip gave up the ghost and my buddy sat near a year....then the problems started up.....lots of stumbles and cutting off.....maybe we will get some relief one day..... This below is from safercar.gov NHTSA Action Number: PE16002 Motorcycle Stalling SUMMARY: This Preliminary Evaluation (PE) was opened on February 25, 2016 after ODI received 20 complaints alleging MY 2013-14 Husqvarna TR650 motorcycles were stalling while underway. Four of the complaints alleged low speed crashes occurred as a result. Following the opening of this investigation, and discussions with Husqvarna, the company decided to conduct a safety-related recall addressing the stalling problem and has filed a part 573 defect information report (DIR) on March 1, 2016. At the time the company was still searching for an effective remedy. As of May 10, 2016, 39 relevant complaints, six involving incidents (including one crash) have been reported. To remedy the problem, the subject vehicles' engine control software will be updated to address fuel delivery mapping. With Husqvarna's recall, this investigation is closed. The ODI reports cited above can be reviewed at: http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/owners/SearchNHTSAID using the following complaint identification numbers: 10617574,10617568,10618382,10620773,10621506,10622575,10627338, 10630327,10730973,10780424,10785842,10786180,10787458,10787434, 10787535,10788508,10789351,10789342,10790572,10821672,10825606, 10838638,10845537,10851736,10851922,10852062,10852127,10852343, 10852408,10852585,10852602,10853125,10853192,10853194,10860631, 10860658,10860919,10862765,10863094
I received my safety recall notice #NHTSA16V-124 from Husqvarna North America today telling us what we already know. The remedy for this recall is not yet available and if you experience an occurrence of the engine stalling we request you stop riding your motorcycle and contact your local Husqvarna dealer to have your motorcycle inspected. Has anyone else received this letter? Please contact NHTSA 1-800-424-9153 or go to www.safercar.gov
Received my letter as well. I guess it took awhile to print up the nice four color envelope with the USDOT and NHTSA logos on it :-)
P.S I just noticed the letter has a number in the lower right corner (167) I wonder if this number is the same in all letters or if this is our number in the line...
They really are floundering around re action on the recall and doing the intermediate steps to minimise the problems and make the machines safe Here is a link to Advrider and an operations report done on a fault repair for an Oz Terra on 18th August 2016 http://advrider.com/index.php?threa...uestions-thread.850525/page-364#post-30166274 What the report shows clearly in top RHS is that BMW Dealer Diags (ISTA/P Version 59.2 which is the July 2016 version) was used to update the machine to the last released firmware version (8543015) so there is absolutely no good technical reason all machines cant also be updated (to 8543016 for USA) while they work out any additional updates. I would suggest perhaps a copy of the report with an explanation be sent to NHTSA showing it can be done
Bought my bike used from the local BMW/KTM/Husqvarna dealer. Should second-hand owners expect a letter too?
The notice has a section to indicate if the bike has been sold to a 2nd owner and for the prior owner to send the new owner information to NHTSA.
Got mine today #173. I wonder if the numbers represent that you were the 173rd person to buy a Tr650, or if it links to the Vin, or if it's alphabetical... Not really important, but it has me curious.
The Mfr/Distributor has to account for all machines being attended to in the NHTSA system, you will find NHTSA has quarterly and annual reports on recalls and actions and the status of recalls is stated in the reports so the numbers you see are part of that accounting
