Yep. I warm mine up every time I start it. Unless I just shut it off a minute ago, that is.

Yeah, but don't let the bike sit there idling for more than a minute or two, the twin cam heads run hot at idle... I warm mine up for about a minute in the mornings then ride it easy for the first few miles.

BTW -- I just got back from WalMart. Rotella T6 for $21.36 a gallon. :applause:

and...it is JASO-MA certified. Right there on the bottle. Suitable for common sump applications (motor, trans, clutch...).

Wal-mart Supertech 20w-50 in the summer, 10w 50 in the winter, what ever is cheapest and change it every 500 miles or so.

I just did my first oil and filter change at 200 miles. I used Motul 5100 15w50, but may switch to the Rotella T6 that many others are using.

The oil looked fine, but there was a lot of little sand grain sized metal pieces caught in the screens. The magnetic plug was covered with a bit of metallic sludge. I'll change the oil and filter again at 1000 miles, hopefully I won't see as much garbage.

Very typical in all makes of new bikes as the gears mesh & metal flies!!!

Shell Rotella T 15W40. Shifts smoother and for the entire period between oil changes. As was said earlier, $13 a gallon at Walmart.

I haven't seen this much debris in the other 5 new bikes I've bought in the last 10 years. Granted, none of them had the steel screens to trap the larger bits, they could have been in the oil filter. All had magnetic drain plugs, and were much cleaner than the 630's. I'm not going to worry about it, I didn't see anything that looked like something was disintegrating, just looked like machined parts weren't cleaned and/or deburred very well in manufacturing.

I went in for Motorex 10w-60 Cross Power (I use Motorex 10w-60 Power Synt in my Guzzi) and they only had one bottle....and I've used Silkolene many times and like it.

Have tried every other oil mentioned except Rotella, and have no doubt they would all be good choices.

Most oils work well. The trick to slick changing and engine longevity is regular oil changes. Particularly bikes wher the clutch and engine oil are one and the same. I change my Dirt bike oil after every 3 rides and the filter every second oil change.
On my road bike (ducati multistrada) I change it every 6000 kms which is half manufacturers recommendation ie twice as often.
