I ride pretty aggressively. In Baja, Mexico, I saw 1300 miles from my rear 140 MT21, but it was done for at the end. I liked the MT21 on both pavement and dirt (more so), but want something that lasts longer.

The rear Michelin M12 has about 900 miles on it, including pavement. It only threw blocks on pavement, and then only when riding 2-up with my teen daughter at 80mph+.

Here's the tire report, includes D908, Kenda, and TKC from other bikes.

Anyone have similar data for any of the trials tires? I'm interested in trying one, hearing good things, but not enough data to be confident in the mileage I can expect.

    Welcome!

I have used trials tires exclusively for the last few years and really like them for the type of riding I do (slow). They do not do well at high speed, and can throw knobs off, although some brands are better than others they do not seem to last on pavement. I have also used a Dunlap 606 they last really well.

I do not know how the rest perform.

Well the rear Metzler Karoo only lasted 1,800km and of that 1,000km's were running it in  The TKC 80 twinduro Continental seems to be lasting much better than the Karoo. I hardly ever ride tar and when i do i try and keep it as short as possible.

I ran Motoz Tractionator Desert H/T tires on my Baja trip.

1,458 miles later, the front is about 1/3 worn (2/3 left) and the rear is about 2/5 worn (3/5 left). I am quite impressed with the longevity of these tires. Yesterday I compared the rear to a Karoo that had 350 miles of Ozarks on it, and the Motoz easily has more tread remaining.

I was on the same trip and really liked my 606
This is my rear 606 after the same 1458 mile ride.

I will say that I HATED the 908 on the 610. It only comes in 140, and it rubbed the exhaust. I found it very hard to break loose and turn the bike. I've heard a lot of dissent from other 610 riders so YMMV, but for me the 606 has great traction, dot rated and long lasting.

I have heard good things here about the Dunlop 606. Only complaint so far--- Slippery on wet roads.

Your knobs look like you were very easy on the throttle when off road.

Um, you'll have to ask the others. I crashed doing 60, does that count? See Baja trip to the tip thread.

I was not racing, but I was going pretty good. septicskeptic started the trip with a 606 that looked like mine above. He brought a new one but ended up never changing it. And he was ripping.

    No, it doesn't.
The front and back corners should be trashed. If they aren't you sure didn't get you moneys worth.

Yeah, well I ain't done with it yet either:cool:

It was a LONG trip to Baja, by definition different than a 1000 miles of weekend rides 5 miles from the truck:thumbsup:

But I was definitely not babying it. I'd like to see BentAero's tire, cuz he was wheelieing every chance he could.

This pic is 1/2 way to cabo and his tires still look good.

I dunno about the tractionator, but the 908 140 rubs the muffler.

+1 the Dunlop 908RR. Mine are comming up on 2000 miles. 500 on the high passes of Col. another 500 in Big Bend and the rest around Houston, mostly street to get to the riding places. Very good on the road, very quite and corner well, very good on nothing but rocks, exceptional in sand and loose dirt. Testing in mud this comming weekend. Have em front and rear on my Honda XR650L but will be up next on the Husky.

Does the Dunlop ralleyraid 908 140 rub only the stock muffler? Will it also be a problem with a Leo Vince slip on?:excuseme: I was planning on running a 908 rear and a 606 front the next time around.

just out of curiosity What were you trying to accomplish running a 908 on the back that a 606 won't do?

imo a 606 rear and 908 front might make sense if you really wanted the toughness on the front...

personally I hated the 908's and am sticking with 606's for the time being.

I have mixed feelings about the 908. When I first put it on I hated it, it has absolutely no traction going forward in the soft stuff and kind of unpredictable in the turns, once again in the soft stuff. It's a big heavy walled tire that's difficult to mount and weighs enough to actually drop a few mph off the top speed.
On the other hand it does OK in things like loose gravel and isn't too bad when it comes to snagging the edge of a rock. It's a much better tire on the hwy than the Karoo and if you are running two rim locks you can literally run them flat. One other good thing is that they wear like iron.
I guess it just depends on what you are going to do with them. I think if I were making a long trip like the TAT that they would work well but if you're doing most of you're riding in soft sandy stuff like what you encounter in Baja they would probably leave you wanting.:excuseme:
