It will definitely fit what I would ask of it. I wanted a daily commuter but not a "street bike" & surely not the same thing everyone else has. My daily commute round trip varies between 80 & 130 miles. Plus if I travel elsewhere for work out of town, it will easily fit in my little S10 & allow me to discover some stuff off the beaten path. I believe my mind is made up, it's just a matter of cash! Thanx again for your in the wild report on this machine. I also look forward to the shiny farkles.
funny you mention that We got a great start today and building some really cool stuff I am very excited about. http://www.cafehusky.com/threads/tr650-parts-coming-very-soon.28114/
I have had my TR for about 5 days and so far it is a blast. Have ridden dirt roads a little but mostly have been commuting. Appears to be getting around 55 mpg but only 160 miles on the odo. I've had lots of bikes, dirt and street, and this is one really cool bike! Looking forward to availability of some accessories, needs a skid plate mostly. Thanks Rich in Placitas
Current issue of Australian Motorcycle News has a small test on the bikes and states a price of $8995 + ORC for the Terra with 2 years warranty unlimited klms. Strada has a price of $9695 + ORC and same warranty.
Test isn't on line unfortunately. There were no negatives about either bike, and said they should sell in big volumes. They gave a breakdown of the differences in the Husky - BMW 650 motors. Engine is essentially a reworked G650GS motor that has been given new cams with longer timing (10.8mm valve stroke intake/outlet compared to 10.4mm), 2.5mm larger 38.5mm intake and 3mm larger 34mm exhaust valves, and a forged piston. Husky piston is 112g lighter than the GS's at 432g and has boost compression from 11.5:1 to 12.3:1. As well as a new fuel injection map, the intake ands outlet ducts have been optimised and the spark plugs thread reduced from 12mm to 10mm to improve cooling in the head. Regarding the under slung rear brake pedal, anyone who owns one think that this one may work? Bargain and 2 years warranty unlimited klms, got a lot of faith in this one. Sounds like a winner.Just got to wait for them to come in.
Hello, Just signed up here. Got a couple of TXC250's. Have had quite a few Husky's since 04. Bought my dealer's TR650 Demo from the A/C dealer meeting. Got a great deal on what I believe is a great bike. Not much mark up on these, a cost saving measure. Excited to get it and see how it compares to my x challenge and what goodies will pop up for it. I am guessing that a lot of the G650 items will cross over so to get a set of heated grips will be easy to source even used since they have been around. Wheels are G650GS or at least the hubs are. I will be doing a lot of cross referencing to see what is unique the the bike and what isn't. Looked over the bike pretty good and saw that most of the parts are off the shelf BMW parts and great quality. Having said that, probably the cheapest 2 components on the bike are the rear brake and shift levers. Plenty of shifters out there already. I have a spare brake pedal off the X Challenge and will see if it will work as soon as I get the bike. Will post. One other thing I did not like but understand cost savings was the passenger foot peg mounts are welded to subframe. Fortunately Sub does unbolt as a unit. Most BMW's are this way. X challenge isn't, my super T the same. IF you toss or drop the bike, if they are sticking out there you can damage the subframe but it will at least come off, unlike the Triumph 800 which is one piece, main frame and all. That is crazy design when you consider the purpose of the bike as an off road machine. Seen a couple of warranty questions and the bike has a 1 year unlimited mileage warranty. They did it as a cost saving measure to keep price down on the bike. Normal BMW warranty is 3 years, 36k. Will be asking about extensions etc. Overall fit and finish is excellent. Can't say enough about the bike. From what I can see, a bike at this price, is an absolute bargain. I bought one because I really like the bike and literally thought at this price, this bike is a no brainer. Want it before they raise the price...or sold out. Nice to see this. Now Husky needs a nice 900 rally type machine....
Good to see other reports out there. that brake peddle does not look like it has enough loop in it to get over the peg but i dont know...
Might not have enough but will know as soon as I can get the bike etc. BMW tends to use one picture for multiple bike applications even though in reality they are completely different.
I am just trying to learn, not trying to criticize, at all. I know nothing about either the 650GS or (obviously) the new TR650. What if we call this forum "650" and include the 650GS?
