    Lamp?

Yeah, the 310 sounds very tempting. However, it wil be a while before I get on any bike. Had a bad wreck on August 5th. What my friends tell me is I hit a dip then bump, got bounced off the seat and off the right side of the bike then went face first into a tree at 35-40 mph. August 5th was a Sunday, I woke up in the hospital on Tuesday Aug. 7th. Don't remember the wreck, the pick-up truck, ambulance or helicopter rides. I ended up with a fractured skull into my sinus cavity, broken scapula, 2 fractured ribs and damage to my right knee. Got out of the hospital the following Thursday. It's been 20 days and recovery has been going at a good pace. No more cane or arm sling. Haven't been driving a car yet. Definitely can't ride a bike. Not sure when I will be able to ride. Hopefully I'll be ready for next years enduro season.

One thing I really like about the 310 over the other two bikes is it has electric and kick start. The others only come with electric. Could you add a kickstart to a 449 or 511?

My KTM 640 is really only 624cc. Their 530s and 525s are actually 510cc. I'm ok with that.

We rode a stock TE449 and my stock TE511 back to back and you could notice a difference especially off the bottom. Your chart shows a good difference int he 2-5K RPM and then again on top. As it is only 30cc you can't expect much but it is there. I usually get the smaller bike (450 verses 510, WR250 verses the WR300) but in this case and as the stroke and crank were the same I opted for the 511 for a few more free HP.

Great picture Kelly, love it. Here are the specifications I have on the 2011 TE 449/511 I received from Husqvarna some time ago.

    2011 TE 449 - 38/kW (50.9 bhp)
    2011 TE 511 - 42/kW (56.3 bhp)
4 kW difference or approx. 10.5% more kW with the 511. 5-6 hp respectively stock, just figure 10% depending on the upgrades to each bike.

    For reference:
    2011 KTM 450 exc - 38.5/Kw
    2011 KTM 530 exc - 41/Kw
    2011 KLX 450 - 41.5/kW

thanks, was a fun day. The 449 was borrowed by MotosportzMike and that and a few rides on my 511 and his much loved 510 was up for sale and a 511 in his garage ASAP. He said he loved it just did not know how much.

From the same day. (BTW this area is mainly tight trees and single track trail but the open areas make for better pix)

    I have a WB 165 and it looks like WR 125 :D

And I will make no effort to make it look differently :D

Quite some passion is thrown in this thread but the fact is that marketing has a say in the NR and sometimes its just a technical team decision in the factory to give it a NR or name.

I used to repair televisions in my younger years and at a certain time the chassis (all internals) of the televisions where given woman names???? on all technical documentation (European brand)

it turns out that it where the names of the female administrative workers of the department that developed these chassis.

but to come back to it the first line is a very good example

why do we call it WB 165 and some refer to WR 165

WR = wide ratio or wild racing

CR = close ration or close racing

    WB = wild and brutal

165 Is it really 165 CC

or is the reason that it is just bigger then the 150 (which is actually 144cc)

I just start it and ride it and enjoy it

Dont bother, they are getting rid of those engines next year and going back to the previous 450 / 510 engines. They should never have changed in the first place.

Sure they are. And the Moon is going to break free from Earth's gravity and get sucked into a black hole. Dogs and Cats will be living together and cross-breeding. Cold fusion will be perfected and all internal combustion engines will be obsolete overnight. Farts will stop smelling bad.... ETC.

Gosh, that will be good news for my wife and co-workers. However, personally I don't think my farts smell that bad, although not many people have agreed so far. Hooray 510!

No promise of the return of the 510, just possible to have new x-lite based motor series including a 450. Sorry.

I am really unclear what all the fuss is about.

The name is just that, a name. Each bike comes with a data/spec sheet that clearly states what the displacement is.

For all the same reasons it would be wrong to put 430 stickers on a new 300.

If you're o-k with it, why stop at 511? Call it a 1011 or milion-11. That would sound unbeatable.

Here is a way to increase sales, throw some Yamaha and Honda stickers on the new 511 so more sheep will buy them. It's just a sticker....right? A little embellishment or a lot of deception shouldn't matter as long as it's somewhere in the fine print.

Personally I am annoyed with any deception. If you're o-k with riding whatever it is as long as it starts. Then so be it.

Using a number on a vehicle that isn't the vehicles engine displacement is not a new thing. The 1965 Shelby GT350 Mustang had a 289ci motor in it and the 1967 Shelby GT500 mustang had a 428ci motor. Carol Shelby estimated the distance between 2 buildings and thought the number sounded cool. The 2008 GT500 had a 5.4L motor, way under 500ci. The Galaxy 500 never had a 500ci motor. The new Chrysler 300 actually has an engine well over 300ci in it. The Oldsmobile 442 came with a 400ci or 455ci motor depending on the year. Sometimes a number exists for a vehicle just to show what group it belongs to or what model it replaced. The 511 replaced the 510 that's all. It's not supposed to be deceitful in any way.

So the little green circle on this picture is the ONLY reason your turned off the bike? Nothing else? No other logical reason?

I personally own a "510", but its 501cc. That NEVER put me off buying it, because when your riding, the number on the side doesnt count for sqaut when you have 50+ hp at your command under your right hand. Also if your worried about how many cc's are under your bum when riding, then your not concentrating on the track!
