One version of the windshield, these can can do yourself Here is my version and scenario of the possible stripes
I took your advice and bought a givi af49. This is one awesome windscreen. It gives excellent wind protection and is very versatile with its adjustability. I have owned many windscreens but this is the best. I highly recommend it. I did have to buy larger clamps for the fork mounts however as the one shipped in the install pack were to short to go around the fork tubes. The two clamps I bought are stainless marine grade and cost about 7 dollars at the local ace hardware. This is the best screen I have ever had on my husky strada and is very stable at high speed on the interstate.
I bought the MADSTAD, really like it. Very easy to install, the adjust-ability is GREAT, and the screen can be easily removed (4 wing bolts)
Hay NorthnTerraTory, I'm looking at the medium Palmer Products screen for the Terra - I'm 182 cm. Is that the light tint or dark tint? How have you found it now that you'd had it a while? How well does it deflect airflow ?
Link I'm considering the Madstad. What size screen did you get? Do you get any wind buffeting? I'm 6'2" and have never been happy with a wind shield (always feels like I'm in a boxing match with a ghost). Appreciate any suggestions. Thanks
I have the Givi af49 windshield on my Tr and it provides the maximum in wind protection. I have tried others but none so far have given me the amount of wind protection and adjustment as the Givi. The height is especially good for a tall rider and stops all wind buffeting on your face and helmet. It is a two piece design and is layered in order to create a vaccume that directs the wind above and over your helmet. I use my bike mostly for adventure touring and am also pleased with the high speed handling with this windscreen installed. I bought mine from Revzilla online and had it in 2 days. They also have a video on this model on their web site.
Pauli53 did it take a lot of modifications to make that windshield work? I like the looks of it and also like givi windshield. So far the givi is getting the best reviews as far as I can tell but it's a big shield. Which is probably what I need but I do a lot of off road on old service roads and I'm betting I would demolish it. Agghhh I'll figure something out....I just liked how the Madstad will flip and it seems it would be more protected off road that way. Thanks for the help.
I got the 20". I am also 6'2", and I usually run it in the lowest position, I like a bit of wind. If I run it all the way up, I am free of wind.
I really give props to the Madstad! I have installed a LOT of windshields on Harleys, this is one of the best I have ever installed. The adjustability is superb, and the ease of removal really sold me.
After my 1st ride over 100-120km/h (60-75mph) and planning to join mates on longer trips, I knew I needed a screen. Being out here in Africa doesn't help even when ordering cheapish ebay items, due to postage and import duties. So yesterday, I made my own. After deciding on design and approximate height, I made a template from paper and lots of measuring, cut out the template from a sheet of perspex and the started playing with the heat gun. Fastened it with 10mm longer s/steel screws, due to having rubber washers on both sides. Had to do some iterations between bending & fitting. Multiple free-hand bending meant the near-symmetrical design ended up having to be modded slightly, but I'm OK with the end result. The overall shape mimics the black & white stock parts. Sides are abt 50mm wider each side and the top is same width as the black cover. From top of the headlight to top of screen is abt 280mm. Cost was about US$25. Here's the result - it also acts as a headlight cover I still need to add a little clear rubber bung at the bottom tip, so the end would have a brace against the headlight in case a stone strikes. Added a slight 'flip lip in the middle as a finishing touch: I've done a quick test at up to 120km/h (abt 75mph) and it feels strong enough using the standard mount points, probably partly due to the bends along the length. You can't really see it in the pics, but it has a slight ridge up the middle, then the 'flat' part where the screws go, then the more obvious bend where the black cover ends and the white back cover bends away. I may need something still a bit bigger for the open road - I'm 1.86m / 6'1 and will likely have a custom "tall" seat done. So I'll do v.02 on the weekend. Happy to share design drawing with measurements if anyone is interested.
The Givi af49 universal screen is great.Almost no buffeting , works good at half adjustment but found fully up the best.Could ride all day with no earplugs now I reckon , Shoei Neotec helmet , but still will. Im 6'2 but heaps of adjustment and can be done on the go. Tr650 11000km going superb. $300nz dollars delivered.
Rode with the 18in Madstad for the first time this weekend. Excellent windshield. Word of warning to anyone buying: push it down and forward prior to doing any serious off roading. I was hit in the face almost immediately when I got to the trail. Pushed it down and forward.. .but still got nailed in the chin bar one other time later in the ride. Might have to pull the thing for serious trail duty in future
Here's an even better idea - ride with it in your desired position until you get to the trail head - stop, and turn it UP-SIDE DOWN - then go and do the bundu-bashing with it totally out of your way. I had a 20" Madstad on my late Terra and that worked just brilliantly for me.
