I use a heavy plastic film over the head light....3M stuff works good and is easy to clean and replace if needed.....m2c
works surely against branches but what about stones ? My F800GS headlamp got hit by a stone thrown up by a truck And replacement cost ... 450 bucks... I bought used one but since that time I need my lamp covered.
I have taken some inch size sharp edged rocks with no trouble....the film is 60 mil so very thick made for headlights.
Regarding your set - a couple of curious questions: - is the stone guard not interfering with windshield as to remove the front guard panel easily as planned by TT ? - is it possinle in your opinion to swap the mesh guard panel with some clear macrolon one using same TT mount ? I'm planning something similar like that (using exactly the same mounting technique with pins):
Ok, so I cut up a plastic trash bin like I saw on one of these posts and it works and looks perfect. So easy. All I need to do is ad some support for when I am going over 65mph. View attachment 27251
Here is what is left of the trash bin...I had to make a template first. The second attempt seemed to work perfect. I have no problem with it since I am not looking through it and there is no loss of vision on the road or trail. It honestly looks like it belongs with on the bike..
Has anyone tried the one from Bill's? http://www.cafehusky.com/threads/strada-with-forza-single-pipe.32539/page-2#post-310794
I just picked up my factory windshield this morning. I rode to work on the freeway (at various speeds and behind several different sized vehicles) so that I could get a good baseline for the comparison. I may install it at lunch and then go for another quick ride if I have enough time (been out of town all last week and have a huge expense report to process). More to come...
Yes, I have one, also from Bill's. It works great but I got some ear buffeting when I wore ear plugs. My Shoei Hornet DS bill doesn't like the windshield turbulence. I had the same problem on my KLR 650. I remounted the windshield with a couple of small foam spacers at the bottom to make a space between the windshield and the stock plastics. A quick and easy thing to do with the adjustable arms and thumbscrews. Bill had mounted it behind the plastics. Buffeting went away. I get a tiny bit more airflow on body than before, which is nice in the hot weather. No body air blast at high speed. Pretty quiet, especially when you find the sweet spot for your head. Keeps bugs off helmet face shield. I am happy!
I got it on at lunch and it is MUCH smoother! No more feeling like someone is constantly slapping my head around.
Not a big fan of big windshields so thought I would try the OEM windscreen and can say it works for me.
Hey does the factory offer more then one option? Just wondering if there is ashortscreen and one called a touring screen? I am interested in getting one, but my dealer didn't seem to be able to when I purchased the bike, maybe harder to get the accessories in Canada? Not sure.
Wow! That sounds like more than incidental pebbles flinging from tire pressure on gravel. It sounds more like mud slinger tires spinning freely in gravel! It's good to be prepared either way, but it really bites a mc rider's pocket when seemingly low probability sequences occur. I feel your pain, they happen to me more than I'd like as well!
