WR165 vs Beta 250RR, how do they compare?

For some reason the '13s came with a ridiculous 4.8kg shock spring. Even my 300RR Race model. Get a 5.2 on there before you ride it or it will push the front out as expected. The valving will be pretty good for the rocks stock. I had mine tweaked a hair stiffer for a balance of rocky stuff (like NETRA) and ECEA harescrambles. Its a good shock, spring is the same as all the previous steel body Sachs on tons of Huskys and GGs. The airboot to spring is close so trying to use a KYB spring is not a good idea.

As far as the carb, the Beta ia the best jetted stock bike I have ever ridden, and their correction chart is spot on. Clearly some testing was done here. Ride it for awhile before worrying about a carb swap. Honestly, considering your in MA with few if any elevation changes like me, $$ is better spent on suspension, protection, and just consumables for more riding. I had a Smartcarb on order and cancelled it after the first ride.

The ignition is a 2K4, the inverted flywheel type with the stator on the cover. The Beta Estart ring gear is on the OD of the flywheel. I don't think a weight is possible but also its not needed. You can adjust the hit with the PV and its very effective.

Great bike for New England. I'm either hammering rocks like yours locally (north NJ) or racing ECEA and the bike is great at both. Sure its heavier than a 125 platform, its a 250, but its very agile feeling. Even my 300 has a light feel to it and not that excessive off idle thrust that make other 300s seem heavy.

I haven't ridden a 165, but I have the 2014 250 Racing now and I love it. I weigh about the same as you and I have 4.8 in the rear and .40s in front. I have about 200 miles or so since I got it and I'm about 4 clicks or so softer from stock settings on comp. Seems to be just about right in front for sure, but I think I can get away with a few more out in the rear. But, you may be faster than me. I noticed that the faster I went in sections where I could, it was even better. Just rode on some very rocky terrain Saturday and I was getting a little kick back in the rear, but the front felt great.

how much do you weigh? think my 165 has a 5.0 or 5.2 on it. forget.

how is the PV adjusted? haven't seen instructions on that yet.

i would keep it, but i cut the air boot to make it fit. plus i think the next owner will appreciate how well the bike is set up. super-duper crisp.

I'm 180 in street clothes, B rider. The PV is adjusted with hex key, like a KTM.

Beta's spring chart says the .42 fronts are for 175 - 190lbs and the rear 4.8 170 - 184lbs. seems perfect (?)

Get that 4.8 off as soon as possible. You will never get the bike to turn even at 165lb.

OK, that answers my question then.

my SXV was the same way, rear spring was useless if you weighed anything more than 90lbs.

next question if you dont mind... where do you guys buy Sachs springs from? Beta site has them at $135 a pop + shipping, i'm assuming i can do a little better.

I haven't had any issues with the 4.8 in the rear on mine and I weigh 165. But your results may vary.

Try right here or on GGRC classifieds for a 5.2kg takeoff. Other than that your dealer or favorite suspension shop should be able to get them easy enough. PM "twowheels" here if you come up short local, he is a tuner and Beta dealer in MI.

See that didn't take long!

I just finished setting up a KX125 for rocky woods and rode it Sat. Then I raced my Beta yesterday is a tough rocky and muddy HS. Just two different rides, the little bike is very light, active, and fun but the 300RR is just great when the shit hits the fan.

well, I couldn't resist bought the 250RR today. pick it up Mon. maiden voyage shortly after.
