WR165 vs Beta 250RR, how do they compare?

Do you ride any NETRA harescrambles? I'm thinking of doing some next year. Been running the ECEA series for points the last few years but ready to mix it up and I do better in the rocky gnarly stuff anyway. If so maybe I'll se you out there.

no, stopped racing years ago. hop in a hack race day here and there but mainly just trail ride now. BUT, if i do, i'll drop you a line. the JDay series has me wanting to get back into it.

impressions during first heat cycle compared to my Husky WR165

- electric start is neato
- kickstart was easy
- jetting feels very crisp
- feels very heavy to roll around
- feels about same height, maybe a little lower
- seat is more firm
- bars feel lower
- brakes are non-existant, i'm sure the pads will bed in
- clutch pull is very heavy (hydro)
- shift lever seems to fold very easy, odd
- the horn is going to be a riot on the trail

first up on the mod list

- guards, lots of 'em
- bar risers
- swap Michelin tires for Motoz
- 50T rear sprocket
- fuel
- bulk pack of Kleenex

agree on graphics and styling. very mellow but still sharp. i already removed some decals.

think i will do a black front disc guard, black rear sprocket, red case saver and red shark fin to keep the bling minimalist. (i need all this stuff anyway)

also will do a Motoseat cover like my WR in same scheme, super nice 'n grippy.

did all the mods except the 50T rear sprocket.. ok.. ok.. I'll fess up to the Kleenex

Ride it before you spend the money on the 50T, that was the advice I was given and it proved to be correct - but I have the 300 not 250. Very little added to my 2014, shark fin, slave guard, P3 carbon pipe guard, TMD skid plate and Cycra CRM handguards with a Fastway version II top bar clamp from a KTM. At some point in time I will most likely add the Rekluse, but it pulls so well, is short enough for even a vertically challenged 70+ guy that I am going to ride it this year without the auto clutch. By the way, I'm one of the minority in that I love the seat now that I'm used to it - forces me to stand more and have helped my leg fitness program. I did not care for the Sach's fork until about the 300 mile mark, now it's working well on the trails, especially the boney ones. Will see if I still like it on the moto track next weekend at Washougal! My last three bikes have been the latest engine iteration of the YZ250 2Ts, each with reworked suspension and the necessary things to make it trail & race ready; this bike is so much easier to ride and race, happy to have made the switch.

update...

yesterday i got the following done:

- heat cycle 2
- MA ORV reg
- repaired battery strap, dry rotted and snapped
- loctite on kickstand bolt, it was about to fall out
- greased rear axle, had none
- repositioned controls and wrapped bars w/teflon tape for clutch/brake perch
- installed EE handguards, perfect fit after setting up my levers how i like them
- tidied up wiring behind MX front plate
- removed signal switch
- swapped Michelin Enduro Comp tires for Motoz Terrapactors
- ditched stock rim strips for Motion Pro Armor Strips
- swapped stock Pirelli tubes for MSR HDs

ordered guards

- Acerbis front disc guard
- Beta billet clutch slave guard
- Beta rear shark fin
- P3 pipe guard
- also ordered a 10mm bar riser kit

first ride today

so far I've noticed, the motor has insane, smooth power, lots of vibes, front is stiff and I can't get it to turn quick. went 3 clicks out from stock on forks, little better in the chop but I will need to try to raise the forks and see if it turns better. my WR rode on telepathic rails.

for you Beta guys, what's up with the vibes? normal or not? tomorrow i will check all motor mounts. i could feel serious vibes in bars AND pegs. when i rev the bike on the sidestand while warming up, the bars audibly hum through the down rev. seems excessive.

funny to climb rocky hills that were semi-challenging on the WR... total joke on the RR. if i can get this bike to turn like my WR, i will love it. still feels SUPER heavy compared to the WR

you were right, dont think i need the 50T at all. in fact, i think i would have hated it today. thanks for passing along that advice.

on the fork, man it feels rough right now. i'll back out the clickers some more to see if it helps during break-in but i got beat up today in the rocks. plus i couldn't turn the thing for sh*t. pretty frustrating, actually. couldn't steer it where i wanted, got sketchy a few times. i will try to raise the forks a bit to see if i can alleviate that before going to a stiffer rear spring, which the others say will help it turn.

my main concerns right now... make it turn, cure the vibes. motor is awesome otherwise. very lively but nice and grunty. glad i didn't go with the 300.

Get the correct spring and set your sag. The front forks don't like a lot of compression. Can't speak for the 250 but the 300 hums like a sewing machine compared to a ktm

what do you mean 'hums'?
