Its a left hand thread as it turns in affect it should be tightening itself on.

thanks, was a lot easier than I thought too, bike runs great again now, took it for long ride and came back up a hill, dipped clutch in second gear as it bogs a bit just before the power band, slipped clutch back out and front wheel lifted right up! scared me I thought I was going over backwards! bearing in mind it's got over 200 hours on the top end I find that amazing power, still starts first kick from cold too
