  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

04 TE-450 costs/benefits

I purchased a 2004 TE-450 in October, my first dirtbike in 30 years. I have been getting the bike in better shape such as wheel bearings, fork seals, and other small repairs. My question is, are adding things such as a steering stabilizer and everything associated with it, FMF muffler, an IMS tank, and suspension mods worth it on a 5 year old bike?

Steering Stab = If you like going fast on open terrain and staying on your bike.

FMF Muffler = If what you have isn't good enough and you want more.

IMS Tank = If you want to ride more than 45-50 mile one way without having to go back for fuel...

Suspension Mods. Not sure about an 04...set up is a must first.

Maybe ride what you have for awhile, if it really wets your appetite and you really want to get back into riding...then go for the Mods or Trade up to a newer model.

I think if you were going to invest that much in it you need to be prepared to keep it for a while. As he said, ride it for a while, if you like it then either invest or trade up.

Do as many mods/maintenance as you can without investing much money

the steering stabilizer may or may not be usable with other bikes (i've switched mine from 3 bikes in the last 2 years....)

the oversize tank is kinda a must if you ride any distance without a fuel stop...
