    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

G'day all.
I'm interesting in doing an SM conversion on my bike (using current hubs) and i have a few questions for those more knowledgeable than myself.
Are spoke kits universal? I can't find anywhere here in AUS that sell spoke/nipple kits for old school huskys for a decent price. I've emailed JTR and they've said $160AU per set, which is absurd.
Currently looking at some torpedo7 or a used excel 36H set. Is there any way to do this on the cheap or should i save some coin for a whole wheel set?

Mate I went through the same thing. Twice. Don't forget you still need the rims, cost of lacing, tubes, tires, etc too.

By the time it was done, I figured it was quicker/cheaper/easier to buy a set of wheels from Warp9. Comes with 320mm rotor and caliper adapter also.


However, I'm going to assume these ore going on your 510? If so, there are heaps of sets out there.

At least then you can keep your dirt wheels too, it's not a big issue to swap. Will probably want to upgrade brake too, but a good start.

Been advertised a while, you'll get them cheaper. This setup has everything you need, if you got for $1,000 - $1,200 would be a good buy.

Comes with brake upgrade too, just won't look as flash. All options will save a bit over the custom route and you'll keep your dirt wheels too.

Hi all on the subject of SM conversion, I have a 701 Enduro that I am putting 17in on, it's been a bit of a saga as JTR have only just confirmed they can do Haan hubs, obviously being a new bike not many after market parts yet (Wings exhaust excepted) previous plan was to purchase OEM hubs and have them fitted to 17in rims.

Other issue is speedo, anyone know if the oem speedo can be adjusted for the 17' wheels? can't seem to find any info online, the owners manual doesn't give any clues, I checked out the Trail Tech Endurance II (v1 I used on a DRZ conversion) but no-where does it list as fitting the 701!

If you don't want dirt wheels, you could always sell them and get a similar amount to what you'd pay for a set of second hand 17's?

Just an alternate point of view, that's all.

I'm likely wrong, but if you can find out if the hubs off a Ktm 690 are the same as a newish EXC, then you should be okay with any KTm motard set off gumtree etc.
 
Apparently the Haan hubs are for the ktm 690 ones and have been assured they fit, - update... got the wheels this weekend and rear is fine but the front spacers supplied are too big, total width of OEM hubs (inc spacers) is 13cm, the hub with spacers supplied is 14cm, oem spacers in the new hub are too short so have gone back to them to get 1/2 cm shorter spacers... watch this space...
