  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

06 510 will not start......

06 510 will not start......

bike just cranks and cranks...I didn't really go threw it yet.. it was hot as hell today and there was no shade anywhere.... I'm pretty sure it's
getting gas.... spark I could'nt see as it was bright ..... I did put in a new plug and the old one was wet with fuel
I was hoping there might be a few known issues and or quick fix's
I could check....like if these coils go bad and there cheap just give it a shot.....
I'm a clueless greener if you haven't already guessed:eek:

Coils when going bad will still run when the motor is cold but not hot. I would look for the spark first, it should be bright white n blue not a weak yellow.

I went through a couple CDI's on my 610. You might be able to test with a KTM CDI, as it uses the same connecter plug in some later model bikes. Another spot to inspect is the pickup coil and stator behind the left side cover. Something may have come loose? The manual should have the numbers to do a resistance test with a meter. Meter is relatively cheap. Swap out the plug cap while you're at it.

Drain Oil. Pull the left side cover... oil drains out, wipe off all of the accumulated grey fine powder filings that have accumulated as an oily film paste ..on the inside of the case cover and all around... clean it really well. Reassemble. Add oil... try to start....

Had the same problem on my TC450 '05...after about 100 hours. George at Uptite taught me this.:cheers::applause: this fixed it.

Hope this is your problem. Very easy fix.

Ok Guy's, I'll keep you posted.... I'll look into to this stuff Sat or Sun evening when
my wife falls asleep.... she thinks all I think about is riding.....
any thing else....

Well Boy's,
Not much luck getting the 510 to run... blew out the carb in every hole I could
find like three times,,,,, It started once but was weak and cut off...... I had
white and blue spark but then yellow... I'm not sure this was due to over cranking
and the battery dieing.... any ideas..... I still need to do the stator.....

The bike allways starts

The bike allways starts..... you pull the trigger and Bang it starts....

Clean the stator, the case all around it... get all of those grey metal residues out of there. Fill it with fresh oil and give her a shot... worth a try.... worked for me and recommended by George at Uptite to me...

Sorry but you have to get your hands dirty to do this...

When you do the stator just lay the bike on its side, you do not need to drain the oil. You may need to take the gear lever off however-good luck

The part that is bolted just above the stator, (not sure what it's called), will cause a weak/no spark situation when it goes bad. Not sure how you would test it however.
Good luck.

Sending unit / trigger for the crank timing.

yea I did put new fuel in it....
the spark is bright blue and white.....
I'm gonna adjust the values....

Let us know the outcome. I do not think it is the valves as the bike becomes progressively hard to start when the clearance tightens. This seems more fuel or electrics related. Take the fuel line off and make sure there is a flow from the tank. Then clean your jets. That will eliminate fuel issues. if still a no go the I suggest a visit to the shop is needed. Could be coil or some such. The stator looks good by the way.
