07 TE 450 Issues that I need to resolve!

I have a euro model so it may look different than most.


1) What are most people using for a Crankcase vent filter? You can see the plug on the intake for the air pump. I think it should work. Has anybody done anything different?

2) Since I routed the hose from the headcover to the kickstarter side I put a plug on the airbox.

3) I tried to fix my speedometer cable but now it broke again right at the plug? What would you do?

4) The 140 tire is hitting my pipe? Notice all the spacers....what would Chuck Norris do?

5) Seat cover....has anyone installed a guts? What size of stapple do I use? I ordered a guts racing foam and cover. I went with tall soft. I will update this install with photos once I get the new one on.

6) Handlebars and shields. I have some zeta risers and flasher shields coming. Will I have a problem with my throttle cable?

7) Ref Photo 1 The Clark tank is rubbing the frame. Should I use some foam padding?

I will add to this list as I go. Let me have it....what are your thoughts?

Wow, a lot of questions...good ones which I can be of little help as I just got my '07 te450. ( P/o left it modtly stock except all lights off... used for H/S).


I can say I have the Trail Tech Vapor Speedo/tach unit and they say to tie their speedo wire all the way along the brake hose...to or near the banjo bolt and then run the wire off to the unit.

I'm not a fan of the stock crankcase vent set-up...a hose from the head cover to the airbox. My hose was worn thru...a point where dirt could enter... not good.

I'm bending up a thinwall stainless steel tube to runabout the same route with a short piece of the hose to connect at each end. ( I rather have the airbox sucking on the crankcase...no filter ).

Whats the risers your getting? And why?

Where'd you order the seat kit?

Take a look at your rear brake hydraulic hose at the big bend near the M. cylinder. Worn?

I ordered the seat from guts.

I am getting the risers rather than getting high bars. I may still get high bars but I wanted to do this first to see if I like it. When I stand up in the whoops I am very front heavy due to my full belly. It really feels like I am going to fall over the bars.

I would like to see what you do for the crankcase vent.

What electrical fix would work for the cable (wires). Solder?

I think he is talking about where the brake hose comes off the cylinder it loops around and might be rubbing on the back of the motor. Mine has rubbed a small hole in the clear sleeve that is over it. I haven't tried to reposition the banjo fitting yet but I might before it wears more.

I would recommend some foam under the tank. George (UpTite) suggested this when I got a new tank. It's cheap protection.

Well Chuck wouldn't have to do anything since the pipe would make sure it didn't do anything that might make him mad and bend out of the way by itself

However as I look at it you might try to put more spacers on the rear mount and less on the front then it might angle away from the tire? That helped on mine. I think. Then again I might ride slower now. . .

My rear brake hose is fine...but that is another good issue that need to be resolved to most bikes.

Yeah, I meant the loop in the hose can rub thru. (Mines worn badly) Maybe my wheel is adjusted way forward at the chain adjustment and causing the loop to rub the motor more than other folks. Dunno.

I don't see why a small solder job wouldn't fix the speedo wires.

I'm still working of the vent tube for the crankcase...it's a bit of a engineering challange...want a clean install. Kinda wanted it to go uphill ... high under the tank before turning 180* and then back down to the airbox nipple. That might not be possible with all the conjestion under the tank. I'll take photo's though.

Mine isn't rubbing thankfully! I did have some rubbage that I am not happy about. I noticed that the little clip on the forks was turned in such a way that it wasn't providing any protection to the fork guards.

I guess I could solder the wires but then I would loose the connector? No big deal I suppose. It seems ike this will always be a weak point at the top.

Do you think that foam filter that I tie strapped to the hose is good? I am interested to see what you come up with.

I would be somewhat concerned about dirt and water- when it is conected to the air box or or on the carb belhousing on some bike it is protected pretty well- I understand what you are doing and are concerned about hot oily air going into your intake but its effect is minimal in many cases- acceptable for the most part-

Personally, I would have it connected stock or get one of these from Thumper Racing/ Roughhouse- Crank case vent valve also Applied racing makes a filter- but its less elaborate of a set up as the Roughhouse crank vent- something to check out

Ya, I didn't notice that mine was weakening until my bike got really loud. I looked behind, and saw by muffler laying 50 feet behind me. Was about a mile from the chase trucks, so I made a temp fix with wire and my leatherman just to get to the trucks. George (Uptite) drilled 2 new holes on what was left of the brackets and away I went.

Your pipe has the thick welded flanges welded to the pipe. My rear flange on the pipe looks like it about to break. That is good break that happened to your pipe mounts BC! I bet that scarred you when the motor got noisy.

Sure did! My heart stopped for the 2 seconds between the time It fell off and the time I stopped. I had NO idea what was going on. I thought I had lost my whole back end of my bike.

swampds - I noticed your radiator fan is missing. Is the rad brace the issue or does it interfere with the after market gastank? Have you considered trying to re-attach it, possibly in a different location?

I had the fan break when I crashed. It was before I had the rad braces...the rad was pushed back and the fan got sandwiched by the rad and the tank. I had to liquid steel the rad to make it back to camp.

I tried a computer fan but it only lasted one ride.

Yesterday I got the Gut's seat foam and cover on. What a pain! I tried two different staplers and both had lackluster results. The toosh will be happier though!

I may look into one of these. The video was interesting but I wonder if it puts pressure on the seals. I would think a pcv valce would do the same thing....am I wrong?

I am sure its been attempted- auto pcv- you'd have to find one that vents the right way and could keep up with the multiple pulses per second--

I went back and found a link for you to read, it is an exhaustive discussion on crank case ventilation, reasons bike are set up the way they are, and alterations....its an orange link- hopefully you can read it without signing up.

very good info- I would call travis at roughhouse or another rep there and find out if it would work with the husky and the best application-
