    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Im looking to find a oversized tank for my 2008 and wondering whats out there for options. I have been looking for used ones but 4.3 gal is about all I can find. Do any of the other year tanks fit the 2008s?

Also im looking to get a second wheel set for my 08 SM. I want to get a set thats got some knobbies on it. Should I try and find some TE wheels or get some SM ones and find a knobby to fit? What all would be involved to get my SM to behave like at TE off road?

I was looking at buying a new dirt bike but i figure I have a good bike in my posession already that I really enjoy riding on the street, and hear nothing but good things off road so why not save some $$ and be reall confident on one bike and not have to adjust riding styles everytime im doing something different.

Her bike is an SM with an off-road set of tires....not sure of the rims.
 
I think shes running 17's as i remember seeing something on ADV a while back. Thanks ill track her down though.

Oversize tank for our 08 EFI bikes you have two options

The second one is to buy the external fuel pump from Up-Tite (there’s a thread over here somewhere about it...) and then you can get the IMS 07 oversize fuel tank
That’s all I know about the tanks options for the EFI 610’s

As far as Woodsy; yes she does have 17” with knobbies and she can go pretty far with them so it is an option, about the cheapest one you have if you want to get dirty with your SM :D

Thanks for the heads up on the external fuel pump. I have been looking of a used tank since the new safari is out of my price range if I buy a second set of 17s and set them up for off road.
What i am planning is that I will buy a second set of SM forks and get my buddies over at ride concepts to set them up for off road and stick with the 320mm rotor and knobbie 17s. Then it will behave better than the SM suspension and the change over would only take loosening some pinch bolts, and speedo. Quick, easy and better feel than the stiffy forks.
Will any tanks other than the 07 work if i get the external fuel pump set up?
Time to part out the XR650R!
 
Honestly am not aware of any other tanks for the 610 besides those two but maybe I’m out of the loop?
Now, just to run something by you for a second with no intentions of deflating your sails;
By the time you’ll get a new or used set of 17’s, another SM front fork plus having it setup correctly for off road and then the (brand spanking new, he just came out with it...)external fuel pump plus an over size tank that I doubt you’ll find used... :excuseme:
Maybe by the time that’s all set and done you’ll be better off with a used off roader ? :thinking:

Yeah I am still scratching my head about another bike. Theres a 2008 510 for 3900 at the dealer i got my 610 from which would be a sweet ride. By the time the tax man gets his hands in there I would be getting way up there though. Also the used bike market here is poor at best. Finding a bike that can be road plated is even harder unless I look into the DRZ or KLR's.
hmmm what to do. I might just have to make a road trip to southern ontario in the spring with a mitt of cash and pick something up
