  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

08450. Motor Apart, what to replace?

Pete

Husqvarna
AA Class
I got the head off the 08te450 to get repaired and am wondering what is must replace in these motors when you have them pulled down this far?

Its done 3000kms

I havent got around to checking the specs yet, i dont have the barrel off (it measures 97mm)...but i was thinking rings, valve stem seals, maybe timing chain and guides.

Are these essential at a certain mileage? What else is woth doing with the motor pulled down? My wife rides this bike, she doesnt ride i hard, but i want it to last and no let u down out bush.

Appreciate any suggestions.

If you are wondering why i have the head off.

I was replacing the auto decompressor and putting the exhaust cam back in when on the last bearing cap bolt i pulled the thread through!

Supposed to be 8.7ft pounds, used my torque wrench and set to 8.6 to be safe, but still pulled through.

I heli coiled it and pulled another through when putting it back together. I was going to stop tightening before i hit limit on the wrench, but i figured its so loose i better get close. If they are this soft i worry it would have let me down out on the trail anyway. So i pulled the head off to repair it properly (off to machine shop).

I also squashed a bearing cap completely, so i aint trusting this torque wrench its gong on the bin!!!

If you know the history of the bike and it has not had a hard life then, check specs and if in tolerance, I would just replace gaskets and o-rings. However, if you want reliability then do valve seats and rings as well. I would hope the rings are not worn out after only 3000km.

Pulled the barrel off and checked, everything is in great condition, and this bike has been raced for its first 1500kms.

Measured rings, they aren't worn, took head for repair and they checked the valves and reckon nothing to do.

So i whacked it back together last night. I will save the money and rebuild it when it needs it.
