  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

09 TE510 rear brake line failure

AA Class
Just a heads up in case this is not an out of the normal problem. The rear brake line rubs on the back of the engine case between the shock spring and outer frame rail and eventually rubs through the outer protective case and inner plastic covering and the stainless steel braiding,to the point of failure if let go long enough. While this is happening it also wears into the engine/trans case and cuts a nice line into the case too,and would cause an oil leak if left unrepaired.I found out the hard way about the hose while going over the bike today in preperation for this weekend.I guess the easiest way to correct the problem would be to put a longer chain on the bike, the fittings don't take well to bending and break quite easily. The area I refer to is where the hose comes off the master cylinder and bends back around to attach to the swing arm.i might add that it doesn't take long I have 500 miles on my bike now.

Same thing on the 450's. I installed a longer chain, and adjusted the line. It still bearly rubs the case.

Ya I had the same thing on my 08 510...(Geez that sound so old already)
I just put a tie wrap from the hose to the rear shock spring.
Easiest fix I could think of at the time.

New hose on the way looks like the tie wrap method for me if it's the same as the original brake line, and maybe some of the epoxy stuff if it is even close again.:doh:I can't believe how far into the hose and case it rubbed,in 500 gentle miles.I guess I'll purge all the dot 4 out and put the 5.1 in for the added benefits.Hope the hose gets here by Friday.
