  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

'11 TE449 power up questions

Ive searched and am a bit confused.
My bike is stock, not powered up.
I have a JD tuner coming from Motosportz.

What should I do to power up? Remove O2 sensor and just tie up the connector, insert jumper under seat and add in the new tuner?

Do I need a new muffler to do any of this? I plan on de-catting the stock pipe but wont if I need a new pipe.

Leave the 02 sensor in, it does not make a performance difference but you get an error code with it removed. Insert the jumper for the race map and leave it. Install the tuner and tune to you preference. the pipe is up to you. Decat the stocks and get a gain, add a flow through and get more gain, get a full exhaust and get full gain. It is all about flow, the more you flow the more power you get. Thats up to you and the $$$ to decide how far to go. The beauty of the JD tuners is is will accommodate all the changes. More flow = richer settings needed. Let me know if you have more questions.

Thanks for the feedback, I was looking at the FMF slip on but it sure doesnt seem like it adds much in the way of gains other than the bling factor.
I was hoping to leave the O2 sensor in but Im a helicopter mechanic and our systems work entirely different than these bikes so I wasent sure.
Since I have a ready supply of 'real' rivits, I will just pull the convertor out of my stock pipe for now and see how she goes.
I dont need a speed demon by any means, just want her to richen up a bit.

A big thanks for the super fast shipping on the tuner.

Decatting the muffler and tuning the tuner will yield good results. More to be had if you want to go louder / freer flowing.

No problem

Ok, I just did my first oil change and I put my jumper in. There is a pronounced difference in how the bike handles now. Before the jumper it was like riding a bronco in first and second when I let off the gas, now its much more suttle, its not trying to throw me over the bars or pull my arms out of their sockets. Idle sounds better and acceleration is smoother I think.
Good mod, now to see what the tuner does to it.

The jumper takes away a bunch of the lean conditions that cause that bucking. The EFI tuner will add even smoother running and more power.

Did you cap off the brass fitting in the head , the hose fitting that goes to the smog can.... That will give a much better idle and richen everything a bit also...Mine would stall for no apparent reason before I did this, idled great before I put the jumper in.... I still have the jumper in even though I decated, don't know if I even need the jumper in now..
